Nice View, Good Food and Beer

We stopped at the Stieglkeller for lunch after visiting Hohensalzburg Fortress. Important to note that the restaurant was closed during lunch hours, but they had a small self-service area open for lunch. Our visits here were 20 years apart, but the fact that we sought it out after so many years should be an endorsement. You do have to climb many stairs to get to the dining area, but the views are worth it. You can eat while overlooking the city, which is a treat. The patio offers a pleasant place to... More

Restaurant Steiglkeller was highly recommended for lunch by our local guide. He did not say the restaurant was up that steep hill and then up two flights. The menu, with English translation, is conveniently posted before you head up the stairs. Made it easier to decide on beer choice. It is a large building that includes catering halls and beer... We went in for a beer and meal, wow what a fabulous place, whilst we were there St Nicholas and the krampus came in and the krampus ( a devilish creature with bells and a stick )scared me to bits, and nearly put me off my dinner. The Christmas decorations on the balcony were spectacular.

I felt like going back several centuries to the past and we were not part of that movie. The location is special, the building is impressive, but the food was not for our taste.

This is the sort of enormous place we usually avoid, thinking it would be overrun with noisy tour groups but maybe we were lucky. Yes, there were a few groups, but not too large and not noisy at all. There were three separate eating areas in operation, all non-smoking (rare for Austria, unfortunately) and we were in the hunters' room,... More

We had passed this place before but we had never been lucky enough to find it open, on this visit we were! I ordered the duck and goose, thinking it would be a few slices on a plate, but I was wrong! A duck leg and beautifully cooked goose, served with dumplings and red cabbage, quite delightful! My husband ordered... More

This place is situated halfway up the Fortress mountain. Great place to grab lunch or dinner but come hungry! Excellent schnitzel, salads, and pork dishes. Huge portions, quick service and delicious beer. Wonderful atmosphere and they have menus in English.

We have been up here in Winter and Summer and we always stop for lunch up here. The indoor Restaurant is warm and cozy with views of the mountain valley out the windows. In the Summer it transforms into two (2) Beer Garden Restaurants. One located a couple steps down from the Restaurant and the other a couple steps up... More

The restaurant is located at the base of the Salzburg fortress. it is owned by the famous Stiegl family which owns the Stiegl brand of beer. It was wonderful to sit and enjoy the beer, the food , which was typically Austrian cuisine and the company of your loved ones. We had weiner schnitzel, grindl (?) and washed it down... More
