Good for a beer or four

It was the rainiest and coldest day imaginable (for what been an incredibly warm April at least). We were constantly looking for ways to linger indoors. Had to climb uphill a little to get there and as the temperature was around 24 degrees was ready for a beer. Stiegl goldbrau was waiting cold and refreshing a lovely beer. The food we had was from the self service station where the member of staff was very helpful and the food quality superb. Views over the square and... More

Stiegl is Austria's besteht beer so no complaints here but the food had some good room to improve. The potatoes were undercooked and the meat was dry in the Gröstl - which is kinda hard to mess up. The service was super friendly though.

My wife and I came here for a drink after visiting the castle. It was late a late Spring afternoon so the sun was out and it was a little chilly, but it was the perfect place to sit back and enjoy a beautiful view over Salzburg after our walk. And arguably most importantly - the beer is good! Definitely... More

We arrived at Salzburg on a rainy day in late April with temperatures in the day hovering around 6c with drizzles. While walking up to Festung Hohen Salzburg, we came across this restaurant at the mid hill, and we fall in love with their foods when our soup was served. The cream soup of beer and pretzels are absolutely delicious!... More

We stopped at the Stieglkeller for lunch after visiting Hohensalzburg Fortress. Important to note that the restaurant was closed during lunch hours, but they had a small self-service area open for lunch. After navigating our way through, we were very pleased that we stuck around. The staff was extremely friendly, the food and beer were outstanding, and we enjoyed a... More

Our visits here were 20 years apart, but the fact that we sought it out after so many years should be an endorsement. You do have to climb many stairs to get to the dining area, but the views are worth it. You can eat while overlooking the city, which is a treat. The patio offers a pleasant place to... More

Restaurant Steiglkeller was highly recommended for lunch by our local guide. He did not say the restaurant was up that steep hill and then up two flights. The menu, with English translation, is conveniently posted before you head up the stairs. Made it easier to decide on beer choice. It is a large building that includes catering halls and beer... We went in for a beer and meal, wow what a fabulous place, whilst we were there St Nicholas and the krampus came in and the krampus ( a devilish creature with bells and a stick )scared me to bits, and nearly put me off my dinner. The Christmas decorations on the balcony were spectacular.

I felt like going back several centuries to the past and we were not part of that movie. The location is special, the building is impressive, but the food was not for our taste.
