Description: The name of this tavern "Mandra" is the Greek word for a livestock enclosure.Over one hundred years ago, before the area of Kato Paphos was developed, the whole area around this tavern was used as grazing land for livestock. Many of the villagers who lived in Kato Paphos were shepherds and they built these livestock enclosures near the grazing sites. A "Mandra" was used to protect livestock from weather conditions, to store dairy products and sometimes for the shepherds to sleep in.Built with natural stone, much of which still stands today, the "mandra" consisted of a yard that usually contained divided areas of different levels, part of which was covered. This tavern used to be one such place. Its basic character, as can be seen, has been retained. Only a few additions and alterations have been made and this only so that our guests enjoy their traditionally prepared meals in a comfortable and pleasant environment.“Mandra Tavern" was established in 1979.

I had read the reviews about the Mandra Tavern and was looking forward to a very special meal. From the street It looks reallly nice inside but it was fairly empty. In fairness most of the other nearby restaurants were in a similar position and maybe trade is slack during the last week in October. My wife ordered Stifado and I... More

Ate here last year so tried again and still good quality. Bit more xpensive than many but you get quality meats and if you go for stiffado or kleftico, not over priced. Chose stiffado and it really was excellent. Lovely soft cubes of lean beef, not tough scraps like you can get. Nice service, and if you have house wine,... More

Very nice setting local authentic restaurant. Had home made pate to start and mousakka which were both really nice. Attentive polite staff. Good atmosphere, wedding party were there at same time. Not a cheap place, similar prices to London but it is in Paphos harbour area. Worth a visit and would go back.

We were a party of 5. Three of us tried the meat meza. Unfortunately not enough meat for the men in our party, however, the service and atmosphere were very good. Next time will try the ribs!

We ate here three times during our stay in Paphos and it never disappointed. The food was very good with a choice of local Cypriot dishes alongside more international cuisine. We stuck to the local dishes and they were excellent. Try the quail for something different! The service was wonderful with the waiters remembering us immediately on our return. The... More

Having recently arrived in Cyprus we were eager to try what had been touted as the traditional dish SOUVLA. Large pieces of pork or lamb slowly cooked over a grill or fire. Having lived in Crete, Greece for 10 years, we were interested to see how this differed from souvla's smaller cousin souvlaki. We ordered the lamb souvla, €18 per... More

My family and I have been visiting Paphos for over 10 years now. Our first port of call is always The Mandra. So much so that we barely even have to look at the menu anymore. The food is absolutely fantastic and service is always very friendly. Always feel extremely welcome when visiting. I recommend this restaurant to anybody looking... More

Lovely interior, very authentic. The service was great and they welcomed us warmly. The food i would say was mediocre for other places in Paphos where you can get better meals for the price, but this place is more centrally located hence why its more expensive. We were dissapointed by the wine, we didn't finish it and m souvlaki was... More

We spent 2 weeks recently in Paphos and ate at the Mandra 3 times. We found the food, atmosphere and service first class. Would recommend the Meze which both my wife and I struggled to complete as the food just kept coming out!!!

Despite being more expensive than the surrounding restaurants, this still remains one of our regular haunts. New for 2013 is a loyalty card; basically, on your 3rd visit, all of your food bill will attract a 50% discount. Very attentive staff that always give you a warm welcome
