The name of this tavern "Mandra" is the Greek word for a livestock enclosure.Over one hundred years ago, before the area of Kato Paphos was developed, the whole area around this tavern was used as grazing land for livestock. Many of the villagers who lived in Kato Paphos were shepherds and they built these livestock enclosures near the grazing sites. A "Mandra" was used to protect livestock from weather conditions, to store dairy products and sometimes for the shepherds to sleep in.Built with natural stone, much of which still stands today, the "mandra" consisted of a yard that usually contained divided areas of different levels, part of which was covered. This tavern used to be one such place. Its basic character, as can be seen, has been retained. Only a few additions and alterations have been made and this only so that our guests enjoy their traditionally prepared meals in a comfortable and pleasant environment.“Mandra Tavern" was established in 1979.

Excellent Place

We went here twice during our two week stay in Paphos. It's located just behind the main touristy harbour area and in my opinion much better than those places on the front where they are desperately trying to drag you into their places to eat. On both occasions we found the service and food to be... read more

Excellent food and service, ask for Stelios and he will look after you. The fish was amazing and my partner had a candle and sparkler on her cake because it was her birthday.

We followed the sign for this restaurant rather than go right into the harbour. We had the taramasalata and hummus as starters which were excellent. My husband had the souvla and I the kleftiko. Both were delicious. A nice atmosphere and friendly service.

We had the meat meze (20 Euro per person), which was a four course mixed meat meze. It was delicious, served in small portion sizes so you were not overfaced or too full to finish. The service was excellent, and this restaurant was very busy and popular.

The ribs are to die for - 3 racks for a main course. Hosted by Stelios and his wife offering authentic greek dishes as well as their amazing ribs. Lovely setting and handy for Flintstones cocktail bar next door.

After looking at tripadvisor reviews we decided to try this restaurant. It delivered a relaxed environment, good wholesome food,we had the seafood meze which proved to be a full meal with the climax being a whole sea bream. Good value for money.
