Description: The name of this tavern "Mandra" is the Greek word for a livestock enclosure.Over one hundred years ago, before the area of Kato Paphos was developed, the whole area around this tavern was used as grazing land for livestock. Many of the villagers who lived in Kato Paphos were shepherds and they built these livestock enclosures near the grazing sites. A "Mandra" was used to protect livestock from weather conditions, to store dairy products and sometimes for the shepherds to sleep in.Built with natural stone, much of which still stands today, the "mandra" consisted of a yard that usually contained divided areas of different levels, part of which was covered. This tavern used to be one such place. Its basic character, as can be seen, has been retained. Only a few additions and alterations have been made and this only so that our guests enjoy their traditionally prepared meals in a comfortable and pleasant environment.“Mandra Tavern" was established in 1979.

Our visit was particularly enjoyable, with friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant give you the option to pick and chose your own meze dishes which was quite unique. The food was lovely and the portions were generous. Highly recommended.

We visited here for the fish meze. Wonderful we weren't disappointed. The waiter explained what each dish was. All lovely. Extremely stuffed after as there is a lot of it. We enjoyed it so much we went a second time. Moussaka and stiffado both traditional home made lovely meals. Lovely set up. Friendly staff. A winner.

Mantra is billed (on the tourist map from our hotel) as a traditional taverna serving the best of Cypriot food. Yes, it's atmospheric, it's traditional, the staff are friendly and obliging, the décor is interestingly detailed, but the food lets it down. The menu offers many Greek dishes, as well as a range of the usual tourist fodder. I ordered... More

The food was lovely and the service was very good. The waiter even offered to take a photo for us. The paclava is worth a try, very tasty. Will be going there again during our stay

In the heart of Paphos town this is a little oasis for good food. The staff were friendly, the food was good and plentiful and it is worth a visit. We will be going back next year - was a good experience.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. The food was good, although a little expensive. It was a pleasant experience but not one of the most memorable.

We visited here on two occasions on our holiday. The food is great, typical Cypriot foods and a welcome relief from the other restaurants that serve food that is aimed at brits! If you love to eat like the locals do then this is a must!
