The name of this tavern "Mandra" is the Greek word for a livestock enclosure.Over one hundred years ago, before the area of Kato Paphos was developed, the whole area around this tavern was used as grazing land for livestock. Many of the villagers who lived in Kato Paphos were shepherds and they built these livestock enclosures near the grazing sites. A "Mandra" was used to protect livestock from weather conditions, to store dairy products and sometimes for the shepherds to sleep in.Built with natural stone, much of which still stands today, the "mandra" consisted of a yard that usually contained divided areas of different levels, part of which was covered. This tavern used to be one such place. Its basic character, as can be seen, has been retained. Only a few additions and alterations have been made and this only so that our guests enjoy their traditionally prepared meals in a comfortable and pleasant environment.“Mandra Tavern" was established in 1979.

Nice

We came upon this restaurant by chance so decided to try it out. Made to feel very welcome by the 2 guys who were running around seating and serving people. We had a chicken kebab - very nice & tasty, and a stifado which was heavenly, lovely flavouring to this. We also ordered a bottle of rose... read more

My wife usually doesn't like lamb but we both really enjoyed the klefteko (lamb shank) and the souvfla (lamb kebab). The staff explained in great depth how the meals were cooked and were very attentive but not overly so.

We stopped here for dinner one night on our week's all inclusive, and were not disappointed by the fabulous traditional food. Calamari were excellent, crunchy batter and perfectly cooked inside, and the Keftedes were beautifully spiced and came with tasty chips! Really great, classic Cypriot cuisine, and a very good wine list too! The staff were all very helpful and... More

We’d eaten here some years back and had a less than great meal – but not one so bad that we’d “never darken their doorstep again”. I have a sense that the menu has changed since then. Certainly, it's now pretty much exclusively Cypriot with a large “build your own meze” listing of dishes in the €3 – 5 range.... More

We are here on our last Cyprus visit and returned again as we always go for drinks in the small bar next door. We love it. Traditional food which was great. I had ribs which were tasty and hubby had stifado. Really tasty. Not the best meal ever but we would go back. The staff are very dry but we... More

We were directed to this restaurant by some other tourists and were not disappointed. Went there two nights running. Good basic Cypriot food and that's what we wanted to eat. Souvla was tasty and second night had the slow cooked lamb. No complaints. Wrong time of the year for visitors, so was not many guests, but service was excellent.

Fantastic food but it was unfortunately let down by the woeful service, waited 20 minutes for the first course, about the same for the main course but the worst of it all was the wait for the bill!! So long in fact we had to wander around to find a member of staff to ask again for the bill. All... More

After reading all these great reviews, I though this is a sure bet. Sadly, it was one big disappointment. The season is about to end and there are not many guests, I get it, but almost everything we had was either bad or average. I double checked and yes, it is exactly this very Mandra Tavern. Let’s start with the... More
