Classically Turkish Cyprus

We wanted a traditional Turkish Cypriot evening meal and the Kyrenia Tavern delivered this perfectly. We wanted a traditional Turkish Cypriot evening meal and the Kyrenia Tavern delivered this perfectly. Tucked away, the Tavern is a short 6 minute or so walk from the harbour front and worth the effort to uncover. Oozing rustic charm, we felt like we had been invited into someone's house rather than a restaurant. The slightly chaotic yet traditional décor... More

As other reviewers have said, this is a completely different experience. The main thing when going out for a meal surely is a nice ambiance, marvellous food and drink and good company. We definitely had all this at The Kyrenia Tavern. I think we have been visiting this restaurant for about 15 years give or take a year.

Please don't let anyone or anything put you off. You really haven't tasted Turkish Cyprus until you have eaten here. There's a real question of; is this a small restaurant or have you been invited for a meal at someones home? The answer is almost blurred as you are welcomed by the quite elderly proprietor, his son and his wife... More

This is a very different experience from all else we experienced in Northern Cyprus. all home made, exceptionally executed, not flash, but genuinely good cooking.

The food here is delicious - make sure you are hungry as it just keeps on coming. The elderly couple who run it are charming and everything is home-made including the bread and ice cream. The atmosphere is unusual as others have indicated and the dining room is small. We turned up to find they didn't have any room so... More

Wow - what a place, we ate indoors, only 5 tables and a very set menu (didn't see a menu, just ate what was presented). We turned up on spec (no booking) to be asked if we wanted lamb as a main course. If you book you get asked what you want for main course. so we went with it... More

Had a lovely meal here - mezze was the best we had in Kyrenia. Mains were simple, home cooking and very tasty. Owners are really lovely and very interesting - definitely an experience. The setting is completely mad - all sorts of strange things in the garden bears playing backgammon/male manakin in a what looked like a leather skirt! Slightly... More

We took up Trip Advisor's advice and visited this charming eaterie which is open evenings only in October and we are delighted we did so. Delightful hosts who love to cook and to host in their charming, unique restaurant. The food was simply fantastic! We enjoyed an outstanding Mezze plus beautiful fall off the bone lamb ably supported by a... More

Every time we holiday in Kyrenia we make a point of having a meal at the Tavern and are welcomed with open arms by the elderly couple and their son. This year there were 6 of us and as usual had a lovely meal - too much food of course but you spend the whole evening there as no one... More
