When we arrived there was hardly a seat to be had. The very pleasant waitress found us a small table for two and apologised for its limited access. I had wild mushroom risotto and my business acquaintance had the green Thai curry. We were not disappointed. Ample portions and piping hot. Not a speck left when we finished. The service... More

Came here on recommendation with some Dutch friends who were keen to see some olde England. We all loved it - food was lovely and generous and cooked to perfection. There was a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the staff were friendly and efficient even though it was a busy Sunday lunch time. It is also a stunningly unspoilt building. I... More

Firstly, we were made to feel welcome by the bar lady. There's a good choice of beers. The waitress was rushed off her feet and it took a long time for bread and olives to arrive. The main course, 28 pounds for steak and chips is a bit pricey and although it was nice, the peppercorn sauce was watery. My... More

I looked at one "view" about "rudeness" in connection to someone at the bar? I really wonder what one might expect other than a "possibly" an "abrupt" service from a Pub/Restaurant that surely can't be expected to "small talk" during a busy service. It is so, very hard to feed a lot of very variable people within a limited time... More

Visited this pub on Saturday and although it was busy the attitude of the bar man was appalling. He was not welcoming and it seemed that because the pub was busy he wasn't interested in new customers. Food was ok, but I certainly wouldn't be going back due to the poor attitude and unhelpful bar man.

After walking the dog on the Ashdown Forest nothing could have made the day more perfect than finding this little gem nestled in the heart of the Forest. A wonderful treasure trove of traditional English Heritage, with beautiful furnishings and open fires and the most friendly service one could wish for. We were greeted by two of the most friendly... Visited The Hatch Inn on Wednesday, really cosy inside very welcoming. Ordered drinks and shown to a table, ordered the artesian bread basket, very nice. Then had starters of tempura battered prawns, and haloumi and sun dried tomatoes to start delicious and plentiful. My partner had the fillet steak which was delicious not so impressed with the huge chunks of... More

We visited for Sunday roast with friends on a cold wet day in January. The pub was very cosy and we had a well positioned table for four. The staff were very accomodating as I asked for more vegetable instead of potatoes and Yorkshire. This arrived with perfectly cooked rare beef as requested. There is a good selection of wines... Stopped here for lunch with a friend. Lovely atmosphere, low ceilings, real fire - good welcome from the staff. We both chose the steak and ale pie, served with creamed potato and mange tout. Good sized portion, with tender steak and thick gravy. Price was about the same as other local pubs.
