Having had a rest from the Hatch for a year or so we booked a special evening in December and they didn't disappoint - nick still knows what the market wants and the meal we had was flawless as was the wine - thanks Nick

I took two American's here for dinner on a Monday evening. It's an olde worlde 15th century pub with a nice warm ambience, there was a log fire burning and despite the cold outside it was very cosy. The Hatch Inn is set in the Sussex countryside on the edge of Ashdown Forest. We found the staff friendly and helpful,... More

I am mystified by the review claiming this is not a pub ! They have four local real ales on tap and it's as cluttered, charming and friendly as you would look for in a country pub.If you just want a beer or two, as we often do,we are always made to feel welcome. As it happens, we ate there... More

We had a walk in the Ashdown Forest then went to this pub, with the dogs for lunch. We had booked, and as it is small I recommend you book. The service very friendly, they love dogs and people! The food very good, it is all freshly cooked so it takes a while, but worth the wait.

WOW ! FAULTLESS! Probably the best food in England. We visited on 23 December. The apple crumble and choc brownie were to die for! Service is second to none! THANK YOU. We'll be back!

Quality of food/drinks spot on, ambience and staff all lovely in this olde worlde gem of a pub. Cosy fireplace and candles made it all the more festive. The nearby wonderful Ashdown forest for a bracing walk with our dogs was the perfect way to round off our Christmassy treat ! Only piece of advice would be - get there... More

Having not visited The Hatch for sometime as we had always considered it expensive and the food over rated, we visited and were very pleasantly surprised by a lovely meal. Very tasty, plenty of it (so don't over order, you can always add more!), good service and would definitely return.

Atmosphere, food, staff - all an example of how the country pub should be. Log fires to warm in the winter - nice forest views from the garden in summer - a pub for all seasons!

Sunday Lunch was outstanding, Full credit to the kitchen and all the staff. For a country Pub in a beautiful setting on Ashdown Forest The Hatch punches way above its weight. It simply does not need to be any better than this. 10 out of 10. All the food is prepared freshly and you can tell that it actually is.... More
