Great after a walk through the Ashdown Forest

We four friends live not to far away from the Hatch and occasionally used to visit after a lovely walk through the Ashdown Forest. The ambiance is great, with its low ceilings and open fire. The food is delicious and cooked with love. It's not exactly inexpensive but the quality is worth it.

Four friends enjoyed excellent food and drink in the restaurant today. The service from Derri and Mandy was exceptional. There is a very pleasant ambience and a welcoming fire. There were even personal flannels in the toilet.

the beer was ok but bar staff did nothing about one very loud and abusive man who spoilt the night and this was not the first time that we have had to listen to him

We frequent quite a few Sussex pubs, trying to find those in hidden corners, as there's nothing worse than a "plastic pub with flashing lights" that wants to charge too much! I've lived within a few miles of The Hatch at Coleman's Hatch for nearly 50 years and on the way back from Sevenoaks tonight, we called in, and might... More

Dear Tim, thank you for your review in which I read with interest. I am sorry the fire was not 'roaring' to your satisfaction when you visited but I can confirm that it was alight but the 'roar' has to be managed due to the proximity of customer tables to the fire. I also am sorry that you felt the... More

Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday, would advise booking as it seems to be a very popular place for lunch. Food was very good, varied menu. Had a few real ales on tap which my husband enjoyed trying! Staff were very friendly, well worth a visit if you in the area.

I was looking forward to a meal out with friends at the beginning of the year. My friend had booked in advance, online, and decided to call the day before to check the booking. She was told that the time she had booked a few weeks in advance was unavailable as 'we don't always check their emails'. Consequently we had... More

Food, ambience, beer and service are 5 star! Mandy made us feel most welcome and is without doubt the most welcoming barmaid/hostess/waitress we have ever come across. We would definitely recommend and come back. Congratulations to Mandy and all the staff behind the scenes who made our lunch the best ever!

We'd had a rather disappointing stay at a 'posh' hotel nearby. We found. This pub after visiting pooh sticks bridge nearby. So happy that we stopped for lunch. It was so Christmassy and delightful inside. The food and drink water yummy and staff extremely friendly. Perfect! We now feel like we've celebrated our anniversary

We were in the private room for lunch. This was an excellent lunch with fantastic friendly staff. The pub looks wonderfully festive! The beef was incredible and the Fish & chips delicious. Sticky toffee and Pannacotta puds scoffed with pleasure!

My partner took me to the Hatch for my birthday lunch. My venison stew was very tasty with a rich sauce, and my warm chocolate brownie perfectly OK. My partner had the smoked salmon and haddock risotto. She lived and cooked for fourteen years in Italy and has made countless risotto. She maintains that Italians never put cream in their... More

Dear Derek Thank you for your review which I have been expecting. I vividly recall our conversation whereby you strongly accused me of creating your partners upset stomach due to cream being added to a risotto. I appreciate that your wife may have lived in Italy for many years but please also recognise that local, regional & country variations apply... More
