Charming little pub, small bar and low ceilings but good food

It's a lovely little pub which serves good food and has a nice atmosphere. The food isn't cheap but worth paying for. Being tall I don't like standing around the bar as the ceilings are very low and the bar area is very tight. The restaurant at the back could do with a nicer decor and more... read more

A snug and cosy favourite of ours, we've been plenty of times over the last 5 years and it's never disappointed. Ingredients are very good and are almost always well cooked and the puds are tasty too. Best of all, the service has always been friendly and helpful from Jonty in the front of house and the wait staff too.... More

we went as a group of 5 for a friends birthday - the pub itself is fantastic, and rustic with low ceilings and a fantastic atmosphere. The menu was impressive - lots of choice, and very, very hard to choose! I can recommend the Parma and Halloumi salad, the chicken and chorizo risotto, and also the tempura prawns and caeser... We arrived 20 mins late and our table was still available. we ordered a (warm) caesar salad as a starter, an angus steak as a main and a sticky toffee pudding. The main was generous and the meat was of high quality (juicy, tender and cooked as requested). the desert (house specialty) was excellent. We talked with a lady serving... More

Great food, tasty Harveys & Larkins. The pork belly will not disappoint and do not miss out on one of the great magnums of Rioja!!!

We met at 12.30, not having booked, and the restaurant was mainly 'reserved', so after ordering drinks from the friendly barman (owner?) we were shown to the small dining room at the back. Decided to have bread and olives, mixed starter plate to share and then puds. Everything was really nice, and the waitress was chatty and friendly. However, it... More

On arrival we were met by a lovely lady that continued to be charming throughout the evening, however, food took an hour to arrive, we were offered olives and bread, because there was going to be a wait, even though the pub was empty...sadly they then charged us for the nice gesture, £20 for lamb, £16 for a leg of... When we arrived there was hardly a seat to be had. The very pleasant waitress found us a small table for two and apologised for its limited access. I had wild mushroom risotto and my business acquaintance had the green Thai curry. We were not disappointed. Ample portions and piping hot. Not a speck left when we finished. The service... More

Came here on recommendation with some Dutch friends who were keen to see some olde England. We all loved it - food was lovely and generous and cooked to perfection. There was a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the staff were friendly and efficient even though it was a busy Sunday lunch time. It is also a stunningly unspoilt building. I... More

Firstly, we were made to feel welcome by the bar lady. There's a good choice of beers. The waitress was rushed off her feet and it took a long time for bread and olives to arrive. The main course, 28 pounds for steak and chips is a bit pricey and although it was nice, the peppercorn sauce was watery. My... More
