Check opening hours

Good food. Nice Gardens. Parking can be difficult and opening hours are not always helpful. They were just closing for the afternoon last time I visited.

Good service despite the pub being really busy, excellent helping size and tasty food. They do the business! At a quieter time, one would be able to enjoy more the olde world pub atmosphere etc. It is certainly important to make a reservation at busy times.

The Hatch Inn dates from 1430 and is tucked away in Ashdown Forest. The low ceilings and fires make it a warm and friendly place, as do the staff. The food is honest and home-made and not expensive. Everything is good quality - the well conditioned cask beers, the properly sourced ingredients and the standard of cooking. Wirth a detour.... More

For a public house with no parking it is very popular. We took our dog with us because it advertises that it is dog friendly, but our dog is nervous of others approaching him , we had a problem as a lot of others were running free. We ended up putting him back in the car. We went back as... More

For my brothers 22nd we decided to go a little out of town and visit the Hatch. My family had all been before but this was my first experience! Walking in and ducking heads, I immediately got a warm feel from the cosy little pub and was greeted kindly by the barmaid. Being a waitress myself - i highly value... More

This is a genuinely difficult review for me to write. I have pointed out previously that one of the good things about the Hatch is that it serves good food whilst retaining a cosy pub atmosphere. However ( and I am quite prepared for a chorus of disagreement ), I do not feel that dogs and eating areas mix well... More

The dinner was a disaster. There were four of us, dining at 7 30pm, when the pub/restaurant wasn't full. Two of us ordered the filet steak, which was £28 each from memory. That is more than you pay in a formal restaurant in London, which I do visit a lot, rather than a country pub. Our wives ordered two different... More

Dear Sir/ Madam I read with disappointment your recent review. I am obviously sorry you felt this way following your visit to us but somewhat surprised that you have decided to post this review many weeks after the event. The main body of your complaint is that you received a fillet steak which was not to your liking (the price... More

I am easily disappointed when eating out, not today. Food & service excellent. We hadn't booked for a Saturday lunch so were very pleased to get a table.

A snug and cosy favourite of ours, we've been plenty of times over the last 5 years and it's never disappointed. Ingredients are very good and are almost always well cooked and the puds are tasty too. Best of all, the service has always been friendly and helpful from Jonty in the front of house and the wait staff too.... More

we went as a group of 5 for a friends birthday - the pub itself is fantastic, and rustic with low ceilings and a fantastic atmosphere. The menu was impressive - lots of choice, and very, very hard to choose! I can recommend the Parma and Halloumi salad, the chicken and chorizo risotto, and also the tempura prawns and caeser...
