Stuffed!

Visited The Hatch Inn on Wednesday, really cosy inside very welcoming. Ordered drinks and shown to a table, ordered the artesian bread basket, very nice. Then had starters of tempura battered prawns, and haloumi and sun dried tomatoes to start delicious and plentiful. My partner had the fillet... read more

We visited for Sunday roast with friends on a cold wet day in January. The pub was very cosy and we had a well positioned table for four. The staff were very accomodating as I asked for more vegetable instead of potatoes and Yorkshire. This arrived with perfectly cooked rare beef as requested. There is a good selection of wines... Stopped here for lunch with a friend. Lovely atmosphere, low ceilings, real fire - good welcome from the staff. We both chose the steak and ale pie, served with creamed potato and mange tout. Good sized portion, with tender steak and thick gravy. Price was about the same as other local pubs.

No reservation in recommending this charming, atmospheric country pub/gourmet restaurant! The chef arranged menu is startlingly good, there is no meanness with the portions, the pub atmosphere is delightful, and it makes a lovely stop for hikers in the Ashdown Forest as well as passing travellers. I still can't get over the size of the meals, as well as how good... More

Having had a rest from the Hatch for a year or so we booked a special evening in December and they didn't disappoint - nick still knows what the market wants and the meal we had was flawless as was the wine - thanks Nick

I took two American's here for dinner on a Monday evening. It's an olde worlde 15th century pub with a nice warm ambience, there was a log fire burning and despite the cold outside it was very cosy. The Hatch Inn is set in the Sussex countryside on the edge of Ashdown Forest. We found the staff friendly and helpful,... More

I am mystified by the review claiming this is not a pub ! They have four local real ales on tap and it's as cluttered, charming and friendly as you would look for in a country pub.If you just want a beer or two, as we often do,we are always made to feel welcome. As it happens, we ate there... More

We had a walk in the Ashdown Forest then went to this pub, with the dogs for lunch. We had booked, and as it is small I recommend you book. The service very friendly, they love dogs and people! The food very good, it is all freshly cooked so it takes a while, but worth the wait.

Dear Customer, I read with interest your recent review. Firstly I am obviously sorry that, having 'researched' the pubs website you were unable to be accommodated following your journey from, I assume, Brighton. It is clear that you felt snubbed by being unable to be served food & you go on to intimate that your drinks were served intentionally before... More

WOW ! FAULTLESS! Probably the best food in England. We visited on 23 December. The apple crumble and choc brownie were to die for! Service is second to none! THANK YOU. We'll be back!
