Good value lunch buffet

Restaurant is upstairs. Enter by hotel door or via cafe. Decor in cafe is much more interesting and it does burgers but we wanted a main meal. My eclipse tour group stayed at the Hafnia Hotel, nicely situated in the downtown area of the Faroe Islands capital city of Torshavn. So we had breakfast five mornings and three free evenings to choose our own restaurants for dinner. I might have ventured out to some of the other good restaurants, but weather, long days of touring, early wake... More

Thank you for your delightful review of our restaurant. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the experience so much, that you kept coming back for more! It is also very heartwarming to read your comments about our staff, who work very hard to create a real "home from home" atmosphere at the restaurant. We look forward to welcoming you back... More

We had a nice meal in this hotel restaurant. Everywhere else was full so this was our last option but it turned out well. The meal was well prepared and served by the friendly staff. Salmon from the local waters, and local lamb. We finished with some interesting Danish and Icelandic cheeses.

Quite a large restaurant and happily, all the staff spoke very good English and were very friendly and helpful. There was a great selection of fish on the menu which seemed an obvious choice to us, everything was very fresh, well cooked and simply delicious. We both had salmon, cooked in different ways and couldn't possibly fault it. The restaurant... More

OK, I can't really know whether it's truly authentic, but it sure *seemed* authentic. The menu is small, with just a few items on it, giving a boutique feel. I stuck to the fish dishes which were fresh and interestingly presented, for example, they had a salmon appetizer like a fancy little taco. I don't think Faroese cuisine is really... More

Thank you for your kind words about Restaurant Hafnia. We can assure you that the food served is authentic Faroese cuisine, combining fresh local fish produce and Faroese lamb, with popular international dishes. You mentioned, in particular, the deer, which is not native to the Faroe Islands, but offered as an alternative to local produce along with our extensive á... More

There are many restaurants in Scandinavia that are adopting and embracing the new Scandinavian kitchen. A process that started with NOMA in Copenhagen few years ago and and still in progress. The menu the excellent staff at Hafnia are serving is a fair selection of what is currently "in fashion" so to say, fresh fish, steak and some slow cooked... More

Thank you for your review of Restaurant Hafnia. We like to think that the nouveau trend that you described is a revamp of something that we have been providing at Hafnia for many years, highlighting probably some of the best fish produce you will ever find. Incidentally, the restaurant that you mentioned, plus many more, actually source much of their... More

We had the Thursday evening fish and seafood buffet. Extensive cold starters and hot mains. As the food is continuously replenished it is really worth keeping an eye on the food coming out of the kitchen as it is very much better to help yourself when it is absolutely fresh. The tuna was excellent and the salmon en croute was... More

Had an amazing 4 course dinner here! Professional yet friendly service and a nice ambience but the food is incredible. Apparently Michelin hasn't made it to the Faroe Islands but this is definitely the calibre of 1 star restaurants I've dined at, if not better! The guillemot was delicious, as was our main of fish and the sauces & garnishes... More

We went to this restaurant on a Tuesday night as we had heard that they had a great fish buffet and indeed it was. Do note that during the month of July they do the buffet also onThursdays. This restaurant has an old fashioned feeling about it that is really good. The food is excellent - I had the lamb which was very well complimented by turnip and potatoes with spanish onion. As noted by other contributors, the bread is also wonderful. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.
