Great location and setting, average food

The location and ambience alone are amazing, better than the food I would say. The food was average Italian food with a Maltese flair. Expensive even by German standards, €50 for an appetizer, half bottle of wine and main course. But, if you're looking for a romantic evening out, this place might... read more

We visited the idyllic town of Mdina and having found the medina restaurant full we decided to try Bacchus-an excellent decision. We were very pleased by the quiet but pleasant atmosphere. The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff was excellent. All the starters were of superb quality but a special mention must be given to the prawn and chorizo pappardelle... More

Good location within the 'Silent City' of Mdina and efficient service too. Good choice on the menu but pan fried Meagre (fish) and grilled Gilt head Bream were OK but the accompanying vegetables were not 'Al dente' they were hard and barely warm. Wine prices were reasonable with limited choice.

asked the concierge Henri at Golden Sands Golden Bay to recommend a good restaurant in Mdina for our friends 60th. Henri told us about Bacchus. We had walked past this restaurant on previous visits not realising how impressive it is. The location is stunning within the ramparts of the outer wall of the ancient capital city wow !. The food... We spent a lovely evening in what used to be a former munition depot from the medieval/renaissance times and reminded me of some scenic restaurants in Istambul located in former water cisterns. The food is really excellent (we shared first courses and the excellent and well cooked sea-bass); the deserts, which often are the lesser interesting part of a dinner... More

Easy to find as it is just by one of the gates of the mdina. You walk into what looks like a cellar, but it's not at all cramped-tables are well spaced and there is a large reception room upstairs for weddings as well as an outdoor garden (possibly also reserved for large parties-this was where the weddings after party...
