Description: A beautiful Jacobean manor house deep in the Devon countryside, Lewtrenchard Manor offers luxury dining in a sublime setting. Dating back to the 1600s, the Manor has an interesting and varied history, a fact that can be seen in every nook and cranny throughout the hotel and dining rooms. One of the finest restaurants in the county, the Lewtrenchard Manor restaurant is overseen by Chef Patron Jason Hornbuckle who learned his trade under the watchful eyes of some of Londons most respected chefs in high quality city establishments. Here, Hornbuckle has enthusiastically created a menu that makes the most of the best Devonshire produce available while employing the methods and flavour combinations of chic modern European cuisine, earning the restaurant three AA Rosettes. Lively and relaxed, Lewtrenchard Manor is a superb place in which to indulge in the very best food and, indeed, delightful wines from the extensive cellar of old and new world labels.

Stopped in for lunch at this delightful manor house set in the most elegant gardens. The three course lunch was prepared and served with a real expert touch and attention to detail. The food was flovourful and delicately presented and was enhanced by an extensive and imaginative wine list. Service was first class , attentive without being intrusive. All in... More

We had an amazing evening for my father's 70th birthday. The hotel has fond memories for us as we married there 10 years ago however my parents had a very disappointing experience a couple of years ago, so we went with hope that this would not be repeated. We should not have worried. The ownership has changed back, and the... More

Last time we were here, we were crashingly disappointed, but new owners, a new chef and a very different atmosphere and service level were very evident on our visit to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. We began with champagne and amuses bouches in the garden on a lovely evening, overlooking the Italian sunken garden, and it just got better. The... More

We visited with friends and chose the tasting menu which was an excellent pick! The courses led seamlessly from one to the other. Service was attentive but unobtrusive as another reviewer has mentioned. We enjoyed every course and loved the surprise of not knowing what was coming. There was a focus on seafood in the early courses and the main... More

This was supposed to be a four course meal that turned into seven. Every dish was beautifully served and delicious. The service was outstanding.

I am reluctant to make adverse comments about the lunch taken by us last Sunday because it is what appeals to my taste but although the entree and dessert were very nice the main meal was not at all good in fact it was poor. We used to dine here regularly but unfortunately a change in chefs hasn't come up... More

My family organised lunch for my birthday at Lewtrenchard Manor, which proved a wonderfully relaxed but very special occasion. The house is interesting with many small rooms to accommodate individual partes, the service was incredibly efficient, but unobtrusive, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The party included children ranging from two years to fifteen, their parents and senior Grandparents,... More

Visited for Christmas Day Lunch, there was a problem with the main meal, but having been offered a free nights stay in one of the beautiful suites. I we were very impressed, would visit again. The staff are so helpful, and its great you can take you dog, as there are some great walks nearby. Poached eggs to die for.

We stayed overnight this week, and had an excellent time. There is not a negative comment about the hotel, which was outstanding, or about the staff, who were courteous and kind in every way, but I would say the food was good rather than fantastic.

I'm trying not to be critical. The gardens are beautiful, even have wellies in the hall for the walks. The building is fantastic, log fires would be great in the winter dog friendly and well located . As most other people have said the staff are extremely intentive, and really seem to enjoy their work nothing is to much trouble first class. Just not sure... More
