Relaxed, easy dining is offered here at The Horseshoe Inns Bistro, a low key alternative to the sumptuous Bardoulets Restaurant, which has made The Horseshoe famous on the Scottish dining scene. Cosy and rustic, the Bistro is centered around a wood paneled main bar with small round tables edged by linen covered chairs, dark wood original beams overhead and a wood fired stove throwing out warmth just perfect for those cold Scottish winters. A regularly changing menu allows acclaimed chef Patrick Bardoulet to tackle favourite classics from throughout Europe but with his trademark creative twist, using excellent seasonal ingredients from the many excellent producers Scotland has to offer. A childrens menu is available throughout the day, with equally carefully created dishes introducing small gastronomes to the world of good food. Meanwhile, the bar stocks an array of excellent ales well suited to the casual dining approach offered by The Horseshoe Inn Bistro.

Outstanding...truly outstanding on all fronts.

If I could write a review to do this Chef justice, I would. But words fail me. The restaurant is very comfortable, with the staff delivering excellent service and a nice atmosphere. We took the tasting menu, which was great (especially the pork belly), each course was delicious and the wine excellent. I took guests from Norway, and I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.

In a nutshell, we had a tremendous two night DBB stay at the Horseshoe, revelling in discreet and attentive service, with delicious food accompanied by a fine choice of wine. (More than 150 bottles on the wine list). The Horseshoe is on the main road at the tiny village of Eddleston a few miles out of Peebles and, blink, and... More

Visited here for dinner while staying at Barony Castle we wanted somewhere nice for dinner as it was our daughters birthday. We didn't quite realise how fantastic it was going to be they fitted us in at short notice and the food was fab. Expensive but worth it if you want a treat. Service was 1st class really could not... In the past I have regarded this as a very good restaurant but it is probably a mistake in what must be considered a fine dining establishment to go as a party of 11 or 12 for a Christmas lunch. Certainly our experience would suggest that that is the case. The Christmas lunch menu was interesting but the portion size... More

We had some lovely canapes whist we ordered, followed by a delicious artichoke soup, and then fabulous hot smoked salmon on risotto. Food quality is fantastic and really incredible value. Being a cold January afternoon meant restaurant not busy but it will be at other times. Hadnt been for a long while but will certainly be back.

Masquerading as a simple roadside inn/reststop (which it has been for centuries, I suspect) get an excellent meal with excellent service and gracious attitude. All within easy reach of Edinburgh and the main roads to everywhere. Beautiful accurate descriptions on an appropriately short but comprehensive menu, well-stocked bar and wines. And a half-hourly bus service north and south if you... More

We celebrated my birthday lunch on Sunday 25th January at one of the best restaurants in the Borders on a long weekend break. I had booked the table via their web site and it was great to be acknowledged and booked in by return of emails. On arrival, we were welcomed by staff, coats taken off and shown to the... More

We stayed with friends for 2 nights and greatly enjoyed our welcome to The Horseshoe Inn and the attention we received from everyone there. The building, the décor and the staff create an experience like a very friendly country house - warm throughout with lots of extra touches to enjoy and appreciate. Our first evening meal from their own menu... More
