Read the great reviews here and couldn't wait to try out the local food here. I had (severely) over-pickled herring, and my husband chose the (under-seasoned) meat soup. I have no idea where these great reviews here come from, honestly! In a city that has so many great restaurants it was truly a disappointment...

My husband and I had dinner at Cafe Loki this week. We read the reviews and had high expectations. Well, don't. The place is OK, with a view from the church and friendly staff, but the food is average and pricey. We had better meals in Reykjavik during our stay. Menu II is in fact a such small portion that... We were recommended cafe loki as a traditional Icelandic cafe and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine, beer and meat soup, cheese and bread. Lovely view to hallgrimskirkja. Was a bit cold downstairs. Great for a local quick bite

Just pooped in for a coffee but tempted by the delicious chocolate cake. Was not adventurous enough to try the traditional Icelandic plates but they looked good when they came to neighbouring tables.

Today I went and enjoyed Icelandic Plate II, with Shark meat, lamb jelly, bread, and smoked salmon. I have read a few travel books about Iceland and Icelandic food, and I am looking forward to the fish and bread. Loki totally delivered! Though the portion seemed a bit small, it was actually quite filling, needless to say, the food tastes... More

We found this small restaurant on our first afternoon in Reykjavik and stopped in for a late lunch. All five of us got one of the sampler-type plates that featured several traditional Icelandic dishes like mashed fish and smoked herring. We loved everything (well, except the fermented shark!) and came back on our last day for another hit of the... More

Stopped here once for lunch and had the Icelandic soup with lamb and flatbread. It was very good. We went back again and just had the chocolate cake and coffee and it was excellent. Service is fine. It is pleasant and unhurried. We just stayed in the downstairs area as the upstairs was very fishy smelling and I am allergic.

I loved this spot. After arriving in Iceland earl in the morning and being a bit jet lagged, I wanted some authentic Icelandic food. Cafe Loki had it all. It is a small place with a small menu of smoked fish and stews. The herring and egg was my favorite but really all of the dishes we tried we great.... More

Food is good, prices are reasonable and atmosphere is warm and friendly. We had the meat soup and fish mash, both were awesome! :)
