Group of 6 of us, starving hungry and unable to decide where to eat. We walked past and decided to give it a try - we were so glad. 2 different soups each day (at least one vegetarian). Iceland is expensive and this place is good value for money. You will be stuffed at the end of your meal. They... More

Worth going to if you wanted to be full at a reasonable price. Choices of 2 soups daily, one vegetarian and one with meat / chicken. Soups served in delicious bread bowls. Good value and worth trying

We have been in Reykjavik for 5 days and finally I am full for once. Prices in Svarta Kaffi are awesome and you will get two people full and have a beer each for under 5.000 Krona. Sounds expensive? In other Restaurants you will still be hungry and you easily pay 10. 000 Krona. Go there and thank me later.... More

OK, there was a menu outside, but it lied... we went upstairs to this tiny restaurant where the 2 busy staff told us they only had soup left...but they had a deal for soup in a bread bowl and beer....so the chili soup in a bowl it was....we were pleasantly surprised.. very tasty just a little kick to the soup... As said got to love the soup in a roll! Two choices that change each day - ours were Mexican meat & broccoli. 1500 krona each. Beers 900 krona each. Other choices on the menu, but evening only the soup plus drinks. Staff very good & friendly.

I visited Iceland with a friend and on the first day after an early morning flight all I wanted was nice warm food in a cool place. Being a Sunday most places were shut but this little gem wasn't. Went inside and loved the warm atmosphere in the pokey seating area. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. The soup... More

Soup in a bread bowl...what could be better?? I discovered this place last January and go back for their soups every time I return to Reykjavik. It's as good as I remember and sometimes, between visits, I think about how good their soup would be for dinner, all the harder to get my hands on (it's a seven hour flight)... More

My boyfriend and I ate here a couple of times during our trip to reykjavik. It's a good budget lunch offering, which can be hard to find in Iceland. They offer 2 different soups each day one meat and one veg, always served in a bread bowl. The soups are exceptionally good and perfect for warming you up after a... More

We ate at Svarta Kaffi our first night in Reykjavik and liked it so much we went there again when we got back to Reykjavik for our last night. It was a very relaxed environment, the soup and bread were outstanding, and it provided a reasonably-priced dinner option which we appreciated.

This was the perfect place to warm up from a blustry day outside. The place was packed, but we were able to slide into the last open table. It is pretty fast paced, as they are serving people left and right. The bread bowl soups are perfect to warm up with and a nice beer selection to go with it.... More
