Description: The Lasipalatsi building was originally built in the 1930s to serve as a temporary bazaar. After years of glory and some years of degradation, Lasipalatsi underwent a complete renovation and reopened its doors last autumn. The architects restored the original funtionalist style of the building with pure white walls, large windows, interiors with warm colours and delighful little details. Neon lights on the wall outside have been characteristic of the building right from the beginning. Nowadays Lasipalatsi hosts a movie theatre, a library, a TV studio, a media centre, a restaurant and three cafés amongst others. The legendary Lasipalatsi restaurant is situated on the first floor of the Lasipalatsi building. The restaurant seats 250; it also has a bar, two cabinets, and a Winter Garden which is rufurnished to its 1930s style with live palm trees. The à la carte menu reveals Finnish traditions with fresh domestic raw materials, combined with international influences.

Went with a large group, the service was good and very polite. The main courses were fine, nothing that special. Some portion sizes small even for light eaters. Desserts excellent, and starters good. The interior of the place great for retro people.

We chose two different asparagus dishes, one with fish and one with meat, but they were nothing special and a bit pricey. The desserts on the other hand were really nice, both the looks and the taste. Service was friendly but I did not enjoy sitting next to the kitchen door (or whatever door it was) that they slammed really... More

This is a historical restaurant in Helsinki, as it is testified by the decor, which reminds the glorious era of Finnish design. It is perhaps a bit dark (i.e. lights are very soft), but this corresponds to the intended athmosphere. Basically, they serve traditional food, therefore there is not a great variety of choices -the dishes I tried, however, were... More

I was here with friends to eat blinis. This was our second visit and seems like it might turn into tradition. When booking, we were offered a separate space as we were quite a big group. It made the atmosphere more festive and less restless to have the private space, so this was very much appreciated. We were also requested... More

Ate here with 4 people in February on a cold miserable evening. What a a great place - service was excellent and friendly. staff spoke English and provided plenty of help with choice. Food was very good and we all enjoyed what the restaurant described as traditional Finish fare. Plenty of choice on the menu, but drink options limited. Prices... More

Lasipalatsi is always a wonderful restaurant destination in the very center of Helsinki that's been pleasing first-time and repeat visitors not only for many years but in fact for decades upon decades. The restaurant is currently offering they're annual Blini Festival which continues, I believe, through mid-Match. If you like blinis, run don't walk to Lasipalatsi while the "fest" continues.... Look no further! Lasipalatsi - the Glass Palace - was built 1936 - in the functionalist design and following its principle that the design should serve the purpose. When you enter the restaurant, you find yourself in an atmosphere where the food is the focus and the purpose. Your attention is not on the excellent service delivered by the professional... More

Totally amazing visit, food was delicious, service impeccable - we showed up without reservation but got a table after a very short wait at the bar.

The blinis were perfect! Rarely do you get so well prepared blinis as these ones : exactly the right size (big ones, not small and thin), right amount of melted butter and a little crisp around the edges. The waiters bought them to the table one by one so they were a perfect temperature every time. You could even have... More
