The Lasipalatsi building was originally built in the 1930s to serve as a temporary bazaar. After years of glory and some years of degradation, Lasipalatsi underwent a complete renovation and reopened its doors last autumn. The architects restored the original funtionalist style of the building with pure white walls, large windows, interiors with warm colours and delighful little details. Neon lights on the wall outside have been characteristic of the building right from the beginning. Nowadays Lasipalatsi hosts a movie theatre, a library, a TV studio, a media centre, a restaurant and three cafés amongst others. The legendary Lasipalatsi restaurant is situated on the first floor of the Lasipalatsi building. The restaurant seats 250; it also has a bar, two cabinets, and a Winter Garden which is rufurnished to its 1930s style with live palm trees. The à la carte menu reveals Finnish traditions with fresh domestic raw materials, combined with international influences.

Journey back in time

What a wonderful location this is! It's like a journey back in time to the 50's, almost feels like your in Mad Men or something. The food was wonderful and the service spotless! Well worth a visit, I'll definitely be back here!

Right in middle of Helsinki city center. Good place to go have a lunch. For starters we had asparagus with cheese sauce, perfect. For main course we had lamb and over cooked entrocote and for desert we had a lovely... actually I still dont know what it was but it was great. They all were. I would definately come here... More

Fish and other Finnish food in season - nothing spectacular. Rather popular for business lunches mainly because of its central location. Cafe Lasipalatsi downstairs has better buffet lunch for a fraction of the price.

An interesting restaurant. The building and the whole ambience exudes 30th century style, although the restaurant's interiors might think first petrol station lunch mode. Take a closer look place setting starts allure. I chose the asparagus meal, "eat as much as you want," and indeed it was a good choice. The dose was really tasty and offered a great taste... More

Nice restaurant, centrally located, very friendly service, and they had in season asparagus. We were surprised that they already had them over here, while at home in the Netherlands they had just started selling them this season. The waitress answered: they are from Holland, because they are the best. We took a starter with asparagus because of the Finnish ham.... More

We had dinner at Lasipalatsi and we selected the asparagus menu, it was excellent and in my view very reasonably priced for what you get. Of the 5 dishes, the only one that was a bit too ordinary was the dessert, below the rest of the meal. The others were all excellent and different. And the wine suggestions we had... More

Must be one of the best classics at my hometown! First time in here, everything was so delicious from the start till the end. They manage to keep their retro dignity, without being too stiff.

Dinner here was my first dinner in Helsinki and it was a great choice. Had the lamb vorschmack and it was super. Strong tastes and very rich but so different and a typical local dish. Reindeer meatballs to follow and once a again, very rich but more than enough in what you get. Their was no room for dessert. but... More

Ravintola Lasipalatsi is an amazingly nice place in the heart of Helsinki. Nicely located in between central railway station and Kamppi shopping mall. Friendly service with reasonable price.
