Café Engel takes it´s name from Mr Engel, architecht responsible for creating the balanced, harmonius Senate Square (Lutheran cathedral, Helsinki University, Government of Finland). It is an European style café with table service. Café has a breakfast menu and a lunch menu with signature meat balls, soup, and vegetarian dish. Café is frequented by nearby university people, intellectuals and those... More

My husband and I enjoyed the good espresso, free wi-fi, and kind service at this small cafe - not to mention the view of the Tuomiokirkko! Excellent corner of Helsinki to while away an hour or two imbibing the genuine Finnish vibe.

Great coffee, nice pastries and excellent lunch. This is just one of the best in town, makes me happy just thinking about it. Great for writing.

Just happened to stumble upon Cafe Engle after leaving the cathedral and was looking for a quick coffee. So glad that we found it as the cafe latte and espresso were excellent. We had hoped to sit outside since the weather was fantastic in Helsinki but like many of the other restaurants in the area, they weren't serving outside. They... More

A very nice, friendly café directly across from the cathedral. We just had coffee and pastries, and both were excellent. Very friendly service.

Went there to rest a little with view on the cathedral. Had coffee and cake there- it was very difficult to decide what to take! Very good and friendly staff.

This is a lovely, unpretentious cafe for lunch. Service is very good. The food is solid and tasty. As with everything in Helsinki, it is a bit pricey for what you get. Definitely recommend.

We were meeting relatives by the Cathedral, and what better way than sitting having a coffee directly in front of the Cathedral. You get free refills, and there is seating indoors, but we sat outside. There is a delicious selection of cakes too. They are a bit pricey, but you are in a prime spot. Great coffee, great view and... More

Engel cafe is exactly in front of the cathedral in Helsinki. It is a great place for a coffee. But you can have lunch or a wine. The environment is great and the cake are so delicious. I should try the blackberry one with some tea, or try a traditional Finnish coffee.

The atmosphere here is great-- but my brunch was very plain and average. My egg was overcooked, the bread not as fresh as it should be, the fruit not completely ripe. It's a lovely cafe though, and in a great, central location.
