Description: Bellevue is the oldest Russian restaurant in Helsinki, founded in 1917 and has ever since been known for its good food and unique atmosphere. The old and valuable paintings, chairs and chandeliers take you back to the days of the Czar. The authentic Russian atmosphere is completed by classical Russian music in the background. Also the menu brings old Russian cuisine to you. The chefs are flexible and highly professional, so if one of your favorite classic Russian dishes is not on the menu, it is always worthwhile asking for it. There are also three private rooms in the restaurants.

It is one of the rare restaurants in Helsinki that are still good after tens of years. Not much has changed since my first visit to this restaurant about 30 years ago. Food is simple but tasty. This is how cooking used to be before displaying became more important than taste. Pricing is also quite acceptable. I would be glad... More

This is a white tablecloth classic that has been in continuous service since 1917. It has in other words very little to do with kitchy russian "theme" restaurants. A Russian restaurant from the times when Russia was influencing- and being a part of European. Its all about the quality of the food. They serve everything from blinies, pelmenies, Kiev Chicken... Bellevue is one of the two top notch Russian places in Helsinki. Having tried both several times, Bellevue comes short of being excellent. I found service to be slow in picking up that we had arrived and albeit friendly in an old fashioned way, rather too slow. The atmosphere of the place is a bit muted and some lights are... More

Taken here on recommendation from a local, Russian cuisine is apparently more prevalent in Finland than I realised. My guests' recommendations were very useful, as my Finnish & Russian is not up to reading a menu! But the service helped a little as well.

As an American who grew up during the Cold War, I've always had a curiosity about all things Russian. On a business trip to Helsinki I had a chance to try what seemed to be real Russian food for the first time and it was terrific. The interior is ornate and well worn as if someone didn't want to tamper... More

The restaurant does not seem to be very popular. There were only 3 tables occupied on Saturday night. The restaurant plays 70's Russian pop mainly. The food is ok. Nothing really exceptional. Quite expensive for the type of food and the service. The blinis for instance were quite disappointing. The bear sausage was mediocre as well as the steak. The... More

This restaurant is located across from a small park near the landmark Uspenski Cathedral. It claims to be the oldest Russian restaurant in Helsinki. The atmosphere and service were fine. The lamb ravioli soup was especially good. Beer was served as if it were wine: instead of a bottle per person, one passed around and shared a single modest-sized bottle... More

Very fine Russian restaurant in a slightly isolated area, but very convenient to the Marina Conference Center. The menu was a bit challenging, but the server gladly provided assistance. For example, a starter was translated as "Lamb pelmenies with mushroom sauce"; turned out to be what in Polish are pierogi (sort of ravioli-like dumplings), but Poles would never stuff them... More
