Bellevue is the oldest Russian restaurant in Helsinki, founded in 1917 and has ever since been known for its good food and unique atmosphere. The old and valuable paintings, chairs and chandeliers take you back to the days of the Czar. The authentic Russian atmosphere is completed by classical Russian music in the background. Also the menu brings old Russian cuisine to you. The chefs are flexible and highly professional, so if one of your favorite classic Russian dishes is not on the menu, it is always worthwhile asking for it. There are also three private rooms in the restaurants.

Nice there are still classics

It is one of the rare restaurants in Helsinki that are still good after tens of years. Not much has changed since my first visit to this restaurant about 30 years ago. Food is simple but tasty. This is how cooking used to be before displaying became more important than taste. Pricing is also quite... read more

The atmosphere is very nice. Attentive service. Moderate menu with large wine list. We had Borstj, Blinis, Fish Saslik and Chicken Kiev. All dishes are well prepared and tasty. This time the restaurant failed the Chicken Kiev, no butter inside which the waiter should have noticed when he stamped the knife in the "chicken bone". We were given the choice... More

Dining here, I got the authentic feeling that I was eating in a typical pre - Soviet restaurant in Moscow, and treated like a Czar! The tables have a "royal" layout and look about it, you think you were in a palace! I thought I might have been a bit underdressed! The service was very prompt and the waitress was... More

Visited with a friend during blini season. we both had the blini assortiment, which included five toppings and blinis as much as you wanted, served one by one, freshly baked. The toppings were tasty, but the best part was the blini - light and crispy on the edges.(not at all greasy as described in a previous review). For dessert, the chocolate... More

I am familiar with Russian restaurants outside of Russia , they all suffer from the same affliction : greasy food of questionable quality reminiscent of Soviet culinary examples. Salad Olivier, herring under generous coating of mayonnaise, mushroom Julien and other ‘delicacies’ generously overcooked in too much oil. This restaurant falls within the same routine with one distinction; they manage to... More

Well, you run out of garnish that you have to order more, but they make you those blinis (Russian style buckwheat pancake) as many as you like. It is not very common but here they offer gluten free pancake as well. The wild boar as well as roe are very nice on the blinis. For some reason, they don't keep... More

This is a white tablecloth classic that has been in continuous service since 1917. It has in other words very little to do with kitchy russian "theme" restaurants. A Russian restaurant from the times when Russia was influencing- and being a part of European. Its all about the quality of the food. They serve everything from blinies, pelmenies, Kiev Chicken... Bellevue is one of the two top notch Russian places in Helsinki. Having tried both several times, Bellevue comes short of being excellent. I found service to be slow in picking up that we had arrived and albeit friendly in an old fashioned way, rather too slow. The atmosphere of the place is a bit muted and some lights are... More

Taken here on recommendation from a local, Russian cuisine is apparently more prevalent in Finland than I realised. My guests' recommendations were very useful, as my Finnish & Russian is not up to reading a menu! But the service helped a little as well.
