Authentic Finnish dishes

We had the grilled salmon plus traditional Finnish meatballs for our mains and both dishes were pretty good. The restaurant itself seemed to be very popular, is small and cosy with a good atmosphere. We asked the manager about the sea horse painting...but I guess they want to keep the mystery... read more

I love Finnish food, but for whatever reason, I'd been eating in "modern" Finnish restaurants. This place is so traditional you even MUST check something in at the garderobe/cloakroom by the door. This harks back to ancient times when all bars and restaurants insisted that you leave something there. I knew the meal would be big and hearty and tasty... More

This place has been going since 1952 - which itself says something. I had a plate of various pickled herrings (which I love) with salad and boiled egg, and my associate had steak with potatoes. We drank some very acceptable Malbec wine. The meal was better than everage but nothing special. We had to wait quite a long time for... More

Came as an American family not knowing what to expect from a Finnish place. Came away with great impressions of simple delights in good, hearty, meals prepared in simple traditions. The cabbage roll stuffed with beef is good. Wild mushroom soup was delicious. Bit salty to my pallet

This was more a happening than a culinary extreme experience. Efficient waiters and a very traditional menu. Ok value for money and the had beer from the island of Øland, witch is rare I think. We tried traditional Finnish food which was penty and good. The interior is worth the food if you like art deco and real old interior.

If you are looking for an original Helsinki city block restaurant, this is your place. There's no pizza or kebab, but nice "old style" food, try e.g. liver, pearch, meat dishes. They also have a list of "classics". There's good service, also "door service" , tables with white table clothes, but it is ok to go there with chlidren or... More

Almost like an episode from a Kaurismäki film. Also called "Sikala", meaning "Piggery", but that must not scare you away. Good food, big portions, try the Fried Baltic herrings with mashed potatoes.
