A visit is a quick way to go fifty years back in time as far as interior decoration is concerned. You must try Vorschmack, the favourite meal of the Finnish legend Mannerheim,Commander in Chief during WW II and later President. With it goes one (or two) Marskin Ryyppy, the Marshalls own vodka. Here time stands still, enjoy your meal. You... More

Sea Horse has been around for a long time, and both the décor and the service reflect this in an understated way. Nothing in the large restaurant hall really gives away the fact that it is 2014: it might just as well be the 1960's. The same goes for the menu, that has both adopted and helped create some Finnish... More

This restaurant is always busy in the evenings and serves traditional Finnish style food. Not a restaurant for a classy or intimate evening - the noise level is often horrendous and service is quick, but a bit brisk and impersonal ( not surprising, given the speed at which the staff have to work). Good for a week-night meal, but not... More

Sea Horse or "Sikala" ("Piggery"), the friendly nick name, is something extraordinary in Helsinki and Finland. Brilliant and traditional dishes, Excellent value for money and friendly/casual but yet refined service renders this restaurant to one of our all time favouries. I can definitely recommend Sikala for couples, families, business, or simply for a friend gathering. Try for example the salmon... More

I had a green salad to start with knowing the likely size of my main course. Not just green but with other vegetables, a nice light way to start a meal. Main course was meat balls. 6 of them, little smaller than cricket balls, smoothered in gravy served with mashed potato and beetroot. Basic but really tasty and extremely filling.... More

Based in an old Jugend-era apartment castle, the Sea Horse is, in my opinion, among the most revered classic restaurants in Finland, having roots way back in the 1930's. There is clearly a special bohemian laid back vibe in the restaurant, and it has been a favorite among many artists and people in the cultural circles. People from all walks... More

Food was good and true to the Finnish cuisine, but I would have enjoyed more salad. The portions are of good size and will not leave you hungry.

One of the most atmospheric and special places in Helsinki surely has to to be Sea Horse. It has managed to maintain a feel and service-level of the 1930s in a genuine way. Going there kind of makes you think you are stepping back in time - and in a very good way!

Perfect choice for a restaurant in Helsinki. The Sea Horse is the name of the restaurant. We had reindeer meat in a reduced red wine and berry sauce plus on the side was a cup of sweet and special berries, which i combined with the red sauce. My friend, who is a native of Helsinki, had yummy fried herring, small... More

Every year a group of us grom England, visit the Sea Horse, located a short tram ride away from central Helsinki. We Are here for the annual Jean Sibelius festival in Lahti, and Finlands greatest Composer would surely approve of the place, especially to sample the coffee and cognac! This restaurant has been in the same family since 1934 and serves traditional...
