Genuine atmosphere and old, Finnish juke box music. On the list you only find vendice, but it's done well and taste's good with beer and ice cold shot, Koskenkorva. Worth on trying!

Once selected the best vendace restaurant in Finland this place really lives up to its reputation. Fried vendace is what you come here for and it really is delicious. Went there for business lunch, service was friendly, food arrived quickly and fried vendace served Sampo style was really, really good. Dish is simple but vendace really don't need any fuss... More

If you are looking for an authentic Finnish experience than you should definitely give this place a chance. Lots of different dishes from vendaces but also meat if one doesn't want to eat fish. It is not too expensive though it has to noted that if you're looking for fine-dining with fancy dresses and all, then this place is not... More

The fish was not what we expected, the service was awful and we had to leave very early. It was not a pleasant moment and not a good food !

We came here at the recommendation of a local friend. We had the fried vendace, a local small white fish. (Actually, it seemed more like it was sautéed in butter than what we would call "fried", but in any case was quite good.) I had some trepidation about eating the fish whole, as is the custom, but it was not... More

All in all an excellent place to enjoy local delicacies. I enjoyed my 'Häkkään kuolleita' with mashed potatoes. The dessert did ot quite reach the same standard.

If you travel to Kuopio, this is is the place where you should go at least once. Fish is delicious and atmosphere is like 3-4 decades ago. It is like going to the Kaurismäki movie. Service is typical Finnish, mostly decent and polite.

Restaurant specialising in vendace, a fine local fish. Situated in a somewhat drab-looking building close to the harbor, the interior is old -fashioned in a homely way, service is very friendly and the vendaces are great. Beer is not bad either. Very down to earth and absolutely recommended.

Once again we were driving to Lapland and in the early lunch time passing Kuopio, the capital of Savo province. I called earlier and ordered by phone our vendace lunch dishes before the official opening time, i.e., 11 am. Thus, we had different vendace lunch dishes almost ready when we entered the Muikkuravintola Sampo at Kuopio a quarter before 11... More

Nice place and very good&fast service. Prices are alligned with finnish average (so high!). Anyway the fish is very good in all the dishes that they have (basically is a fish restaurant, you have to try it!). Nice beer. Free wifi inside. All cards accepted.
