Matsalen is a modern gastronomic restaurant. Our cuisine is based on using the best fresh produce available here and now in Sweden and other parts of the world, spiced with curiosity and inspiration from everything we encounter. "The natural cuisine" is a menu that changes with nature and the seasons. We pair wine, beer and other beverages with each of the dishes we create. All the producers we work with are meticulously selected, they produce something we like. Our menu and drink offering - like the fresh produce - are living and change with the time of the year.

Being in basement of Grand Hotel makes it easily accessible. Beautifully modern decorated interior. Different and surprising table setting. Such amazing tasting dishes though on the slightly expensive side. After 2 dishes and a drink, too full to have dessert. Carr, young pig & pork buns are terrific! Their complimentary peanut butter chocolate and Madeleines are so tasty and superb... More

Upon entering Mathias Dahlgren, you are greeted and seated at bar height table and brought a drink. Then, you take a tour of the kitchen, meeting the staff and seeing how food is made. (The kitchen is immaculate, by the way). At one station, you are offered an amuse-bouche, then you are finally led to a small, very cosy dining... More

Fantastic! The food, the ambiance, the service... We entered the restaurant by the kitchen, were they served 3 incredible amouse bouche directly from the oven... Then we went to the table, got a warm(!) napkin and an Ipad with the 6 course menu and the wine list. The food was incredible, the pumpkin soup with pumpkin seeds, aged cheese and... More

We often eat at Michelin 3 star restaurants when in Europe. This is a 2 star restaurant deserving of a 3d star. You are first seated in a separate room where you can have a glass of champagne. You are then bought into the kitchen for 3 small tastings each of which is fantastic. You are then seated in the... More

We had dinner, the tasting menu, and I thought everything I had was excellent (a few adjustments to remove truffles from my dishes, I had the scallop main course and an alternative dessert, based on strawberries as I don't like yoghourt which featured on the main menu). From the small dishes in the (amazingly calm) kitchen, through all the other... More

It seems to us that Michelin is more forgiving in considering restaurants outside France. Not so respecting Matthias. Personally, we would have given it a third star, but for the absence of drama and service ranging from obsequious to “we were evidently mistaken to allow you into our shrine”, none of which is, in our experience, a welcome addition to... We have been to Matsalen in Mai for Diner. Due to our late booking request, we were offered to seat on the "Chief Table", a table located near on the 2 kitchens where you can see the team finalizing dishes. That was ok, but I would rather recommend to book a table in the main dining room. Now concerning the... More

We booked here after reading reviews , and we found a diamond . On arrival we were shown to a table , and ordered drinks , we were then greeted by the head chef , who took us through to the kitchen where we had canapes , and chatted with the chefs . After this we were seated in the... More

Matsalen was my first real experience with Scandinavian food and it was a wonderful experience. Starting in the kitchen with "snacks" with the chef, you are given a glass of champagne and a few small amuse bouche type things and you get to chat with the chef. After that, we were taken to our table where the food kept coming,... More
