Amazing meal!! Wish I could have had more!

I stumbled across the bright orange front of this restaurant whilst wandering around the old town. I ordered the Swedish potato pancakes and they were truly moorish! Unfortunately as it was my last night in the city I didn't really have the funds left to indulge in more courses - otherwise I... read more

It is nicely located - a bit away from the tourist path. Many locals have coffe/ desert which is always a good sign. We had lunch - not big choice , but the food was freshly cooked and tasty. Also they had kids menu. As often in Stockholm- bread, water, tea, coffee goes free to the lunch. Nice place for the... More

Under Kastanjen translates as "Under the Chestnut Tree" - I asked. I found it quite by accident as I was looking for a place to have some brekkie in Gamla Stan. I'm sure I couldn't find it again. Had a Home Breakfast (I think that is what it was called) with staples like juice, yoghurt, ham/cheese sandwich, egg and even... More

We only went for tea and cakes, although they do meals as well and they certainly looked good. As for the cakes, it's certainly the best place in Gamla Stan if you have a sweet tooth. The atmoshere is very much akin to an English tea room.

Had an usual beet, pine nut, and basil entree which nice, followed by my favourite Swedish Meatballs which was delicious. Washed down by a couple of 5.6% Anbos beers and with friendly service, a very nice meal.

The littel cafe/ restaurant in itself is a gem: Cozy interior, nice outdoor seating area. The tomato soup I had was fresh and satisfying, the shrimp sandwich my friend had was a little on the heavy side (mayonaise-laden). The sweets and pastry looked tempting, the free coffee witht he soup was a nice touch.

Last Sunday we met a friend for a fika in the Old Town/Gamla Stan, we met at Under the chestnut tree/Under Kastanjen, a bistro located in a charming square in the Old Town, next to a big chest nut tree. They have a wide selection of gluten- and lactose-free pastries and of course my dog and her friends are welcome.... More

Best food I ate while being in Stockholm. The pumpkin soup was to die for, and so was the shrimp salad. Bread and coffee come in unlimited quantities, and everything tastes really fresh. Under Kastanjen really feels like home, except that sometimes it can be really crowded (which shows once more how popular this place is with locals and tourists... More
