Nice but a really expensive lunch

It was a nice atmosphere but I had a cheese plate and a wine and my husband had a sandwich and a wine and it was a $100 which was a little much for lunch.

We stopped here for some Swedish coffee on a winters afternoon and thought it was a great little place. Nice and quite, relaxing and intimate with lovely decorations. The Swedish coffee was very good.

Visited twice on different days and times. Very quaint establishment set in a beautiful square. There are comments regarding prices but we found it to be no different to most places. Good coffee and snacks and an excellent place to people watch

We had a rather expensive coffee and pastry here, both nice enough, while waiting for the Nobel Museum to open across the town square.  We sat on the outside patio. It was in the morning and was not crowded when we sat down, but the square gradually filled up and all the cafes got busy. When I went inside and... More

Stockholm as we all know is an expensive location to visit but this cafe takes it to extremes! Called in for a drink, maybe a snack? There was a small blackboard on the table with some drinks listed, one of which was Gluhwein, (a hot mulled wine). I ordered this as I'm a keen skier and lover of Austria. My... More

Nice place, in the central square, really friendly staff, but is very overpriced, I payed almost 90 Euros 2 persons, for 2 main dishes and small bottle of water and one beer.

Just lovely! Small and cute restaurant on the nice square in the old town of stockholm! They have a very nice terrace, small but that is okay cause it is old town!! The food was great, tasty and so nice presented! The staff was pretty friendly girls, always with a smile on their faces :) Prices quite high... but understandable... More

We sat at the terrace of this small café to protect ourselves from the rain. The café is nicely located, opposite the Swedish Academy. My GT was OK, my wife's green tea had a strange apricot smell. The staff was very friendly and eager to offer a second cup of tea (with no effect on the aroma…) and didn’t charge... More

I was afraid that I would only find tourist traps in the heart of Gamla Stan but that restaurant was a nice surprise. Had pretty good swedish meatballs for lunch for a reasonable price and a view to one of the most famous sightseens of Stockholm. Wasn't a memorable meal, but it was pleasnt enough to be considered very good.... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
