Nice cakes, free coffee refill, but it doesn't compensate the lack of comfort while elbowing the table neighbours, nor the unfriendly staff. Take away cakes cost almost the half the "eat-in" options.

Called here on a wet and windy night. Ignored when we went to order and not at all friendly. Everywhere was busy except here. Wonder why?

Lovely café-bakery, we stopped at this place after having a tour in the old town, it was quite cold and raining so we just wanted to drink something warm. We had tea and some pastries (the lemon pie was delicious!). Its interior decoration is just charming, very antique and delicate. The bathroom is super tiny but we didnt mind at... More

Today we visited Sundbergs and when I left I was very angry. I needed to change my babies diaper but there was no place to do so. So I ended up changing her at the ladies room. When I was finished I threw the diaper in the bin. But it was smelling bad so I told one of the waitresses.... More

We stopped in here after a walking tour of Gamla Stan / Old City. It had been raining all day and it was getting rather cold so this was the perfect place! Our tour guide told us that this was one of the first sweet bakeries to open in Stockholm. The place is nicely decorated and a bit posh. The... More

Gamla Stan is packed to the rafters with coffee shops, restaurants and bars, so it was a hard thing to pick one from the bunch for a quick refuelling stop. Having wandered around Riddarholmen and Storget, I hadn’t quite found anywhere that caught my eye until stumbling into Jarntorget, a much smaller square at the foot of Gamla Stan, near... More

We stopped in for a quick fika and were glad we did. The pastries were delicious and fresh, and I had a baked potato with (believe it or not) shrimp/caviar/cream topping. It was huge and quite tasty. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, although i am not sure that the staff speak much English. Worth a stop in though!

We stopped here for lunch after having visited the Nobel museum in the morning. Beautiful inside, we chose to sat outside to soak up the weather. Lovely chicken salad for lunch, unfortunately didn't have fika here but the pastries looked so good! Reasonable value for the area also.

My boyfriend and I stopped by for fika after a day of walking around Gamla Stan. There was ample seating, especially since there were outdoor tables and chairs with limited umbrellas/shade. Inside, the decor was old fashioned and homey. The staff were pleasant and handled the line with aplomb, as people started flocking in to escape the mid-day sun. There's... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
