Great ambience, roaring fire and fabulous food. It's advisable to book a table, as gets very busy. Very accommodating service.

We (7 of us) didn't book but were accommodated without any problem after our visit to Alton Towers. The food selection was good, for the adults and kids, the drinks were cold, a fire was burning and they let dogs in! A great pub with great service by my standards.

Have visited a few times. The lights at Christmas are spectacular. However service is always stressed and slow. Food disappointed ( soup) but other people s sandwiches looked lovely If only they had enough relaxed and friendly staff it would make a big difference. If you like very dark traditional pubs you will like it. Just be prepared for a... More

We have been visiting this pub for years. We live about 5 miles away. We only attend a couple of time s a year. They really go to town with the Christmas lights outside and it looks really pretty. Always a roaring real fire which we love. Really good hearty food served here. The only thing I think could be... More

Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor I was very disappointed with the food I was served at lunchtime today. (It was also really cold in the bar/restaurant and I had to keep my coat on for most of the meal.) I had the beer battered haddock, chips and peas. The fish had that ammonia taste that you sometimes get... More

Denstone is a lovely little village and we visited mid-week. It was comfortably crammed. The barman has a system to behold - he appears to be able to service three customers concurrently and accurately! I ate the stake pie and chips! Proper very good quality pub food - homemade and gorgeous. The deserts look wondrous - however, I got that... More

This is the favourite location for us and our 3 girls to go out and eat for a treat on a Sat pm - our girls always ask whether we can go out for Pizza at the Tavern. We have been here many times and it is always excellent. It is fresh from a wood fired oven. We tend to... More

Yes its our local and yes we probably visit The Tavern 2-3 times a month for lunch or Dinner but this is a completely unbiased review. The pizza is right up there with the best, certainly better than The Bulls Head at Repton (which I think is where they got the idea in the first place !) ... suggest the... More
