SCHNAPS AND HERRING

A charming old place, where we had a nice little lunch. Quiet and filled with old Danish pieces, a sense of history. Very attentive folks. Danish tidbits and aquavit, and a great beer. Our little lunch, away from the bustle of Nyhaven.

Came across this place by accident while walking towards the areas with more restaurants. This place only does the open sandwiches which were really tasty. The bread was really filling and the topping choices were very vast. Also a reasonable price. Overall a very good experience.

Great place for lunch for fishes lovers. Ordered two types of herrings dishes and Parisian beef steak. Local Fur beer only 2,6% great for lunch. Local amazing rye bread provided by house. Very kind and professional staff. Early booking recommended.

Excellent meal in a great atmosphere, and served by the owners which was awesome. One of the highlights of our trip to Copenhagen. Would eat here again in a heartbeat.

We booked a table for lunch during a long weekend based on the restaurant's Tripadvisor ranking and its location close to our hotel. To be honest, we were slightly disappointed. The place was full of locals which is always a good sign but we found the Danish open sandwiches we orderd to lack flavour and to be a bit on... More

I had the famous Danish open sandwich with rare beef with tartare sauce, beetroot, pickled cucumber and thin, crispy onion rings that were the most onion-y onion rings I've ever had. Himself had hot chicken liver pate with the most delicious moist rye bread (quite unlike the miserable stuff we get in the UK) and a selection of pickles. It... More

Our meal was delicious, the service and patrons were all very welcoming and friendly, and the atmosphere was wonderful and cozy with an old-world, classy type charm (if that makes any sense). Also, the palaces are just around the corner if you want to see them. I highly recommend this restaurant for an authentic Danish meal and beer.

I was at this place together with a colleauge for a late lunch. We are not from Denmark - and certainly not very familiar with the smörebröd concept as they serve it. The food was superb along with a good service and some suggestions for beers etc. The price was ok - defientely not expensive.

Whilst walking around in the freezing cold in Copenhagen we stumbled upon Restaurant Amalie. The restaurant was busy but they found us a table within 5 minutes. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was good, we had a light lunch, I had brisket with grated horseradish and piccalilli and my wife had meatballs with beetroot and pickles.
