Almost perfect

If coupled to a massive wine list and small but quite diverse food menu there had been an equally diverse desserts menu, I would gave give this place 5 stars. There was no real dessert, plums with port, triple chocolate and rice with berries highlight the lack of a proper full monty dessert. Yet... read more

Copenhagen definitely seems to be a foodie town. All the places we ate were very good, but this was superb. A small house next to a canal, the food is very, very good. The a la cartel is worth doing, just for the inventiveness. There was a fantastic attention to detail with all the course and 'extra' plates popped in,... More

If you are looking for fine dining that gets you off the new nordic tasting menu bonanza, then Kanalen is the way to go. Seated in a tiny canal-side spot that feels like a home the charm is on overdrive here. As always, the Danish wait staff was extremely kind but the food packed a bit more punch than some... More

Stumbled across Kanalen on a weekend break, worth going out of the way for. Great food and wine, lovely staff and nice ambiance. Recommend a visit.

Both the location, service, and food are excellent at this restaurant. Although it's not exactly cheap, the price to value ratio of this place is probably the best I've had in Copenhagen. The food was delicious. In addition to à la carte, they have a full taster menu, but also a smaller menu which varies from day to day, we... More

The place is located in a quiet area of the city, along a canal. The service is very nice. The food is excellent with quality ingredients. We were granted with two appetizers, the first one, even very good is probably not for everyone's taste : half duck heart with half cherry. We chose then oysters, a very surprising dish where... This is the best dinner experience we have had in Copenhagen! Small delicious hors d'euvres, an excellent steak for me and perfectly cooked fish for my wife, very tasty chocolate cake with good coffee. We had a bottle of excellent wine. We were lucky to come early because we should continue to the opera, so we got the corner table by... More

What a find! Very close to Noma, we were walking back to the city centre after looking through the windows at Noma (couldn't book a table there!) and spotted this down a little side street next to a canal. What a find, thought it was slightly expensive at first, but the tasting menu was great. With the dessert written as... More

This was about my 4th trip to Copenhagen and I was meeting two colleagues, one a Dane and the other from England, for dinner. The restaurant is small enough to feel comfortable and homey, and is on a canal. At the suggestion of our Danish host, we had the 7 course meal with wine pairings. What a meal! Each course... More

Staying in Christianshavn

Neighborhood Profile
Christianshavn
Just across one of the many bridges from Indre By, you’ll find Christianshavn. An eclectic area with old brick lanes, houses dating back to the 16th century, and canals which are home to many boats and ships, some of which has been turned into restaurants or even serve as fully furnished homes. The best known attraction in Chistianshavn is Christiania, a “free town” of residents who squat on a former military area. However just a stone’s throw away from Christiania, you’ll find some of the most fashionable waterfront apartment buildings in Copenhagen as well as the splendid Royal Opera House.
