My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night at Castelvecchio. We started with saganaki, a fried graviera cheese that is lightly breaded and served with a salad of lettuce and cabbage. Then we had an avocado and cucumber salad that was so amazing. A splash of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, some chopped dill and onions dressing enhanced the... More

Having never been to Greece before, we decided to look at trip advisor to see where everyone recommended to eat in Rethymnon, and as advised, Castelvecchio was the place to go... and... it was amazing! Great food, wonderful place, great atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Hope to see you again soon.

We also went on the last night of 2013 before they close until march 2014! We enjoyed our meal here, fab views just not so keen on the house wine. When the owner realised we weren`t drinking it he simply took it away and we re-ordered from the wine list but then didn`t charge us for the House carafe....we were... More

We enjoyed our first visit so much we returned. We found the service superb on both our visits, the food is fab and the wine was my favorite. This is a popular restaurant and booking is a must. It opens in the evenings only. The setting is lovely, beside the fortezza and overlooking Rethymnon. The menu is extensive and each... More

Lady luck was certainly shining on us when we found this restaurant. Unbeknown to us it was their last night before shutting up until April '14 and we managed to secure one of the last tables on the balcony outside. As others have commented, the view ticks all the boxes and gives a fantastic panorama over the town with the... More

This is a nice location and relaxed friendly atmosphere with only few tables inside, so book if you are here during high season, but definitely worth a visit. I rated this the second best restaurant we visited in Rethymo for service and food quality. It was definitely good value for money, although we elected to drink house wine (unusually), with... More

It must be that God went down Earth and is cooking in this restaurant. We have been here for a late meal after visiting the town and the fortress, we didn't have a reservation but luckily there was a free table on the lower balcony. First of all it is a very romantic place - the lighting, flowers, the view... More

Uphill, near the entrance to the old fortress and the archaeological museum. Excellent food and good service make it worthwhile walking up the hill. We went twice in a week. Some excellent bottled red wines, but the carafe white house wine may be too sweet for some tastes.

We have just spent a week in Crete. We went to Castelvecchio based on its ranking withTripadvisor. When we arrived, the staff were courteous and friendly. We were given a table with a great view of the city below. Things looked promising. I ordered fillet steak with a pepper sauce, and my wife ordered veal with a wine sauce. When... More

A lovely welcoming restaurant on a chilly Cretan evening! We shared a portion of rice stuffed vine leaves followed by kleftiko and meatballs. The food was really good with great service and lovely wine. It was too chilly to be outside but we were very comfortable inside and definitely recommend this restaurant. The fresh roses on each table are a... More
