Description: Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made deserts are also offered.

Food ok. Service SHOCKING. Most uncomfortable chairs in Crete. Overcharged our party by 40 Euros, which we only picked up due to members of our party being able to speak and read Greek. Manager or owner refused to speak to us. If you still choose to eat here, beware! My advice is dont!

This restuarant has one of the best settings with large trees providing a canopy above the restuarant. We went in for a special occassion and wanted a steak. We both like our steaks and was hoping to not be disappointed and we werent. One of the best steaks we have had, cooked to perfection with just right amount of veggies... More

The restaurant itself is pretty and nicely arranged outdoors. The food was also very tasty but I felt is was a bit over priced compared to some other local places and the quantity on the plates. The staff were friendly but we felt very rushed with our meal which is not usual of Crete and they brought out the wrong... More

We had just arrived after a long journey to Rethymnon and asked our hotel (Rimondi Boutique Hotel) where to eat. They recommended Alana as it was close to where we were and opened late. The restaurant tables were covered with lovely trees. The food was typical Greek and Mediterranean and was excellent. Many interesting and delicious choices. The service was... More

The waiting staff gave advice on wine which was welcome. Tables, ambiance, food and service very good. The fish was beautifully cooked and the grilled shrimp salad was lovely.

We had the mixed mezedes and slow cooked lamb there, both was great. Restaurants provides Wi-Fi for Facebook likes. We enjoyed our time sitting there, the Food made a very "authentic" Impression and was high Quality. 1 L bottle of water only one €. That's fair. I would highly recommend it, especially over the overpriced Harbour Restaurants.

If you like big portions and tasty food this restaurant is not for you. The taste of our food was very bland, potatoes cut so thick that they were raw in the middle and sauces as thin as water. Huge plates and relatively small portions.
