Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made deserts are also offered.

Great food and excellent service

Great food and amazing service. We visited once for lunch, 2 adults, 2 children ( one 15 months). All fresh and home made. If I owned a restaurant this would be it. Even as you go upstairs to the super clean bathrooms, you look out over an olive canopy with the smell of the kitchen beneath. Just... read more

We go to Rethymnon several times a year and Alan Restaurant is our favorite. Not only do they have a great menu but they have a staff that is fluent in several languages and very helpful with allergies. And last but not least the best desserts - I highly recommend to try the Banoffie pie!

Delicious fish, appetizers, and Greek salad! Family of 12 all dined here at the same time and the service was wonderful! Highly recommended!

My favorite part of our dinner at Alana was the setting: an elegant outdoor patio set back a bit from the road, shaded by a lovely old tree. The food was very good but I found the selection and value to be just a little less than others. Bonus points for having milkshakes available for the kids.

Rolled up sans reservation around 10pm which was our own mistake. We were told 5-10 minutes. Half hour later we were seated. In the meantime the over-worked bar girl (doing table drinks, coffees and desserts) had just taken our drink order when our table came up. Service thereafter was impeccable. Unfortunately I went with the "special" rib-eye that day but... More

There are dozens of restaurants and tavernas in the old town and the standard is high but this place is a cut above the rest .It's more of a fine dining experience and the ambience and style make it a special place to go.The food is terrific and several dishes come with mashed potatoes which you don't come across too... This restaurant has a wonderful setting under an enormous spreading tree away from the tourist tavernas. The tempura prawns, dolmades, grilled sea bream and pork fillet with leek and plum sauce was just yum. As was the Peloponnesus wine. Staff were many, friendly, efficient and smiling.

This is just a fantastic restaurant in every way! The food is perfect - creatively cooked and great value for money! Also, the setting is breathtakingly beautiful with its huge olive tree, as well as lovely stonework and Greek artefacts! You must eat here!

Than most of the eating establishments in Rethymnon. The surrounding are very pleasant, with attentive service. Food was very good cooked week and presented. We both had Rib-Eye steak which were cooked to perfection. They carry an extensive selection of wines to suit most pockets. The complimentary portion of Cheesecake presented with the bill was heavenly.
