Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made deserts are also offered.

We had a lovely meal in gorgeous surroundings and great service. It was perhaps a bit pricey compared with similar restaurants nearby - I think this was mostly down to the fact that there wasn't a "house" carafe of wine, just bottles which are obviously pricier. The wine was excellent, however!

We ate here on the 8th of October after our wedding. We were a group of about 12 and Alana were excellent. We had plenty of space in their seating area, it was very beautiful. The service was brilliant, especially the manager who helped us put together a mezze for a cost per head so that it worked out better... More

At the recommendation of our hotel, my husband and I ate here on our last night in Greece. I had the mushroom risotto and he had the chicken wrapped in phyllo dough. I've been a vegetarian for 7 years but his dish looked so good that I had to try it. It was so heavenly that I almost ordered a... More

We found this place towards the end of a 2 week stay in Rethymnon after having eaten in many places within the old town. This place is towards the edge of the old town on the castle ruin side and we both thought it was hands down the best restaurant that we visited, so much so we went on our... More

Actually our Dutch friends, who have been visiting Rethymnon for 10 years now, suggested to have a farewell dinner in this Restaurant. Good choice of dishes to choose from. Because it was busy, the waiter gave us a table for 4, next to the street. Unfortunately there was a large fan attached to the wall right above our table, which... More

Delightful courtyard style restaurant. We had stifados and mousaka both were excellent and home cooked. This restaurant is very good value ,we had a starter,2 mains and 2 beers for 27 euros. The place is very clean and the staff are friendly. We will definitely be returning before we go home.

We walked by this restaurant with a charming terrace in Rethymnon and were seduised by the place. First we were served quickly with some bread and water... but after the appetizers, it was just like we desappeared.... waiters are smoking at the bar, talking with the kitchen or checking their texts messages. The food was good and regarding the price... More
