The Katsina is an "ouzeri", which is a restaurant that serves small dishes in the form of, for example, mezze and fingerfood (and ouzo, of course). The Katsina does however also serve main courses. The ouzeri suited us perfectly because it allowed us to taste a greater variety of Greek food. Note that the mezze are larger helpings than, for... More

We visit this nice little family business very often as a family, especially during summertime. Located in the city center of Heraklion, near the christian church of Agios Dimitrios, in a square-like open air space, "Kastina" is famous for the seafood plates they offer. One of the best and personally my favorite is the grilled octopus with olive oil and... More

situated at the back of Agios Demetrios church, in a quite "square" in the city centre. It has kept the traditional Greek taverna style, which means no decoration because food is what counts! Locals do prefer it because it has a traditional cuisine like "home". It remids us of of our grandmothers. Traditional cuisine, cared by Mrs Margarita, the proprietor.... More

This family owned restaurant is situated in a hidden square in the city center. Great place. I have been three times. Try the Moussaka prepared by the mamma of the owner... it was the best I tried in Crete.

We went to this restaurant twice during our stay in Crete, largely because my partner loved the sardines he had the first time. But I found the menu very limited - most of the dishes on the list were unavailable on both occasions - although the food that was available was ok. My main complaint is that I was unable... More

This is a family restaurant, and the food shows great care. The mussels were fabulous, and the rest of the meal was very good. As with other eateries on Crete, we were amazed to have such a good meal for the price.

Food was very fresh, simple and unpretentious. Service was prompt and friendly. Patronised by the locals, always a good sign. Portions were generous and the manager gave us free dessert and liqueur. Outside terrace was pleasant and sheltered despite being a rather windy evening. One of the few restaurants in the area where we were able to stand outside and peruse... More

My wife and I ate here twice during our stay in Crete. We decided to wander away from the busy and dodgy looking restaurants close to the water and hit the jackpot with Katsinas. Katsinas is run by a mother and son and has been operating for 20+ years. The meals are genuine traditional Greek dishes that have luxurious home... More

We stoped there for a lunch during our trip to Heraklion, we found it almost full with locals so we thought it was good place to have lunch a wasn´t mistaken. The food was delicious and atmosphere was lazy greek. though we waited almost an hour to our meal it was worth it. Friendly staff, nice windy day, no stress... More
