A nice break from the tourist menus

Just off the harbor in a neat alley, steki was a great change from the restaurants on the water at a good price. I had the grilled feta cheese starter then one of the traditional dishes. Both were great and they brought out complimentary dessert with of course roki. The staff was not pushy... read more

Found it initially for lunch but were so impressed with the food, staff and location that we visited several times during the course of our holiday. Good menu range including traditional Cretan dishes.Garlic bread and mixed 'hot' starters great to begin with. The Chicken fillet Methismena proved very popular and we did try the mixed Greek plate for two. Make... More

Avoid the restaurants int he harbor if you want real Cretan food and come here -- friendly, and great, service, excellent food, and a gorgeous old Venetian building to house it all in.

Discovered Cretan cuisine, a delight! And prices are very reasonable and service excellent! Attendants are alerted and one doesn't need to wait too long!

This taverna is tucked away down a leafy side street away from the touristy harbour area, and opposite a fun-looking little bar called The Black Rooster. The food was fine but generally was cooked without love - soggy Boureki, mounds of tasteless spaghetti carbonara, reasonable meatballs. As ever, the servings were huge. The staff were a bit joyless to be... More

We have found this place by mistake :) Good food, polite staff, moderate prices and beautiful decoration. Opposite this there were a drinking bar also. So after this you could enjoy some drinks. Do not eat by the sea for heavens sake.

As there are many restaurants in town, this one may not be as competitive as others in terms of location and food. Atmosphere is great. Ordered calamari and it came with disappointment. I asked if the squid will be fresh ones and the staff answered in affirmative. However, there is no sign of fresh taste, guess it's frozen instead.

A year later and in a crowded town I decide I will return having plenty of time ahead Fabulous. 30 little snails in a traditionally cooked portion of chochli ,stake with eggs so creamy and fragrant, nations with delicious mizithra, so the following night in a place full of flavours and options I go again, repeat the chochli please and... We stumbled upon this tavern while wandering around the old town. Looking for a quick, cheap eat after a long day out, these guys exceeded our expectations. While no doubt a typical tavern aimed at the tourist folk, it was still away from the more obvious restaurants for travellers along the port. We chose to stick to a range of... More

Food was great-- grilled lamb, salad. Service was just right-- no fawning. No hawkers to lure you in. Pleasant atmosphere.
