I...I have no words

This was just exquisit. We came to Crete with my family to experience the island. And when we came to our appartment the owner's daughter went and suggested a few restaurants in the area. And I think we weren't prepared for what we were about to recieve. We ordered a few courses so each and... read more

As a Greek living abroad, with a passion for genuine good quality Greek food, I can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. I admit falling in love with everything concerning Portes: the lovely warm hearted owners, as genuine as the food they serve, the location, the decor made of doors i.e. "portes" (even the poster of Dublin doors in the midst of... I have been coming to Chania for 20 years now and have eaten in many restaurants in the town. Without doubt this was the best meal I have had! It was tasty, well cooked and well presented. I had the chicken (leg) with figs and a lovely gravy with potatoes and caramelised onions. It was delicious as was the aubergine starter.... More

The place: is fantastic to sit and relax, although you can find i suppose this in all restaurants in the small streets of Chania. The food: it was good , but nothing to remember and talk about. Greek souvlaki could not be chewed, but all the rest where nice. People: although there were 3 waiters, and just 2-3 tables, we... More

As detailed by many reviews, Portes offers reliable, good food. Like many, the fennel pie, tomato fritters and sea bream all stand out. During lunch time, seating was outdoors in a cute little passage way. However, it was terribly hot and there were no fans or breeze to speak of. Even with good food, it was tougher to enjoy while... We asked our waiter for recommendations and/or popular dishes, and he proceeded to lecture us loudly on his inability to recommend anything given that he didn't know anything about our eating preferences - told us to read the menu and ask him any questions we had after doing so! So, after being 'dressed down' we obediently read our menus. On... More

Staff was very friendly and don't jump on you in the street we appreciated it. We eaten appetizer and plate, the cooking was good, and the place was nice in a small street. We really recommend this place, probably one of the best place in Chania to eat.

What a great place! The grilled octopus was too die for, and were the mussels and sea bream were to die for. The Greek salad wasn't as good as many we had, but it was still very nice. Lovely, quiet street. Great service. Would go back! www.atlinadventures.blogspot.com

Recommended by the guide book and visited twice. Open air, on the street taverna. Good menu range, delightful staff, great food. Tsatsiki and Portes pie for starters, quinoa risotto and bereki for the ladies, beef in red wine sauce and ioutoutia for the men. Local white wine and bottled Mythos for the men. Super taverna with suoer food. Recommended.
