Nice Greek food, friendly service

We didn't get the seats at 'Strata', instead we ate at the neighbor restaurant, which was pretty good and beyond our expectations. Meat and fish were all delicious, the complimentary dessert is typical Cretan one. Deserve a visit!

We had a good dinner in this place with solid Greek salad, very good roast lamb with yoghurt source, chicken kebab and chicken Kiev. The bread came with fresh coriander sauce and tasty olives. I would have rated it 5 if I did not have to ask 3 times for the bill and waited a while for the change.

I enjoyed this place. It was recommended by a local friend and she was right about the place. There are some traditional plates with a modern twist. I loved lasagna with blue cheese and pumpkin..

I ate here twice during a week's stay with my wife in Chania and we would both very highly recommend it. Located on a quieter backstreet up above the tourist bustle and maybe 10mins walk from the waterside. We sat outside both times in a shady veranda. The surrounds are very calming and evocative, the service is attentive but laid-back... More

Definitely 'a cut above' standard Greek food. We had various starters and for our main courses: The lamb cutlets were fabulous as was the vegetarian dish (sorry, can't remember it). It was pouring rain but the staff just got on with it (there are tables inside and outside but under cover). Portes is well-known but has NOT over-priced itself. We... More

Super tasty food with lovely outdoor seating on a charming pedestrian street in Old Town. We loved all of the dishes at Portes especially the daily specials. They serve many traditional Cretan dishes but also have many other daily specials and dishes not typically found on Cretan menus. The waitstaff were really jovial and attentive, and made our experience even... More

Lovely place on a small street at the edge of the old port. Very good service with an interesting menu. Fabulous Lamb Stew with Yogurt Sauce. Highly recommended.

Read the raving reviews, and had too high expectations. My wife was wearing shorts that exposed some skin to the chair seat, and the previous comments about the chair quality rang true. The service was accommodating and offered a pillow; yet I wonder why they don't simply put a pillow on each chair. We arrived at 9.30pm and they were... More

We were a family of seven persons, got a table upstairs. The service and the food was absolutely perfect. The prices very reasonable. Would go back and warmly recommend :)
