I found this restaurant on Tripadvisor and it appealed to me as I really dislike tourist traps, yet wanted a place in Monastiraki. We went in and were offered seats next to the band or in the back 'garden' area. We chose the latter which was more peaceful and simply beautiful: reminiscent of a Morrocan riad, an indoor courtyard with... More

Warm welcome. Busy place. Generous portions, not the tastiest, but good times. Large fish platter is huge, but all fried, if you want something tastier, go for the individual dishes. Live music was good.

For saying this is slap-bang in the middle of the tourist area (one of those places where a waiter leaps out at you as you walk past), it was surprisingly good. Both times we went there, we went for dinner and there was live music playing, which was also nice. Obviously you need to take into account that the bottle... More

My wife and I had lunch in the lovely courtyard setting at the rear of this restaurant and enjoyed every aspect of the experience. The service was very good, the menu provide a wide selection of meals and the meals arrived in good time with healthy servings at a good price. The meals were also absolutely delicious.

Aside of the friendly service and usual buzzing nice Greek guitar ambiance in this tavern, we always go for the calamari. Huge plate and very very reasonable price. Go for bread too, the olive paste is to die for!

We ate five nights in Athens and this was the very best. It looks the same as any other street restaurant from the front, and you can sit at the front and people-watch, but at the back it has a charming little garden room with trailing vines where you can have a quiet meal - very atmospheric. The food was... More

Dropped in after a long morning at the Acropolis. The staff are quite helpful welcoming and polite. Food is good and fast. Quite an extensive menu. No long waits. The tables and glasses can be cleaned better but it is Sunday so very busy. My only comment would be that everyone smokes and the ventilation is not so great even... More

Looked for alternatives on TripAdvisor and picked this restaurant. Thanks to others who recommended this place. There is a great menu to choose from. Not only was the food outstanding, but the gene rouse servings and being entertained by staff looking to invite other patrons from off the small and quaint street was also fun to watch. A must try.... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighborhood Profile
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
