Nice food, central location, bit touristy, MASSIVE CARBS

In the central Athens you're really overwhelmed with tourist restaurants. I think this is one of the better ones. The food is traditionally Greek, good, wholesome food although they do seem to go over the top with the carbs. Service is a bit average but that's not uncommon in Athens. NOTE... read more

We stopped for lunch at Efcharis and had a fascinating meal. We decided to share the small seafood platter and were served so much squid, octopus, fish roe, shrimp, sardines, and two other kinds of fish that we ran out of appetite well before the platter had been consumed. One thing that could be improved--the service was indifferent, which wasn't... More

We visited based on TA reviews. All the restaurants that we tried in Athens had similar menus and standards. Efcharis (not easy to identify as it's in Greek) is the first of a long strip of restaurants. Great location for people watching so can't see the point of sitting inside. We went without being "dragged in" by the promoter and... More

Good food. Good ambience. What more could you ask for. Service was prompt and food serve within 10minutes despite being full house. A must restaurant to visit!

We had the meat platter for two and it was delicious! Their was a lot of food and at a very good price (17 euro). They treated us to drinks (a bottle of water and 0,5L wine carafe) and dessert! Very nicely decorated place, very nice location also! The only downside is that they allowed smoking inside... But it worths... More

We went here in March 2015 for dinner, the welcome was great and the food excellent and well priced. Two starters, two mains drinks for less than 50 euro and they brought us a sweet and a drink and bread for free. The food was a good and lots of it and the live music was excellent which had everyone up dancing... More

My wife and I were stopped and pulled into this restaurant when we arrived to Athens. We sat outside, while a traditional Greek band played inside. The staff was nice and our meals were served quickly. We ordered the Greek salad, the cheese plate (GREAT), eggplant (freezing cold), tzatziki (fantastic - so much better than the way the serve in... My sister and i were walking around and i recognised the photo from Tripadvisor and decided to have our lunch here. We ordered Saganaki, small Seafood Platter and Traditional Roast Lamb. We ended up finishing our Roast Lamb first and were too full for the seafood. The seafood portion is really huge for us. We ended up having it to... More

We went in there to escape the snow, yes it DID snow in Athens February 10th! And we were glad we picked this restaurant. Lovely decoration, good food, and I particularly fell in love with the beautiful artistic paper place mats they had. So much that the waiter gave me 5 of them with different drawings! And now they are... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighborhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
