Gyros, gyros, gyros

Cute cafe. Fanatic food with great prices. Loved the gyros. Cheap, quick and delicious. Don't miss out on the Greek donuts--they smell amazing and taste sooo good. Friendly staff and great service. Highly recommend!

Ate there for late night gyros... the service was great and prices were cheap. The women who runs it (with her daughter) used to live in Chicago! We hit it off. The doner and pork gyros were amazing... def get the Kebab in Pitta. OH AND THE DONUTS!!! The Loukomades were unreal puffs of heaven. We sat outside, talked, and... More

Went here twice during visit to Athens Food is great Staff helpful Justifies its Trip adviser awards and a much better place to eat than the cafes on the tourist strip near the Acropolis Museum

We visited this cafe one of our first nights in Athens. We had the crisis meal with chicken souvlaki. It was very good. If we had known we would have just done one and shared between two of us. Great amount of food for the price. About 9 to 14 euro for salad, glass of wine, main meal and dessert... More

The staff members are very unprofessional. They withheld our visa when their banking system went down..and the service is ridiculously slow: waited 25 min for a glass of water...

We both ordered the "crisis menu" where you have a salad, a dish, a glass of wine and a desert for $9,00 euros. The pizza is not like the Italian ones, so expect a American pizza or you will be disappointed. The kebab is also different than most, but it is a good choice! Wine and salad are great! Total... Stopped in for an afternoon snack after arriving at Athens Gate Hotel (right around the corner). The food was great, service even better. Son loved his gyro pita (for 2 euros, I loved it too). Fries were among best we had in Greece. It was very cool inside which was much appreciated. Servers were so friendly and efficient. Would definitely... More

Not knowing where to go, our hotel said around the corner there was a cafe. Not knowing Athens and starving after long hours of flying we were ready to eat! A good sign it was packed with friendly and patient staff. We enjoyed all the food we ordered even went back again while we were staying in Athens!

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighborhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianized Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centerpiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
