Perfection

Frankly I was a little dubious when I read about this 2-star Michelin restaurant. Why would I want to eat "french" food in a country where I love the traditional food? Boy was I wrong! I would not define this as "french" food, I consider it more of a European restaurant using both french and... read more

This restaurant is incredibly beautiful and you can tell the staff put great attention and thought into their work and their food. However, it feels a bit like the goal is more to be upscale than to produce truly excellent food. Some dishes definitely were not worth the price, and it unfortunately was not the best food we experienced in... More

There are very few Michelin stared restaurants in capitals around the world that have a terrace for dining outside. Spondi is a notable exception from this rule. Spondi is located in walking distance from the city center, probably 15-20 minutes from the Syntagma Square. It has a small but nice courtyard and dinner is served outside for most of the... More

The place strives to reach a respectable level of cullinary experience ....yet unsuccesfully so ! Perchaps they should try first by balancing their prices with the reality of the actual qualities of their plates ! Nice location and very good service.

Outstanding french restaurant in a quiet street, close to city centre. Nice interior decor, although I am told that the open air area is really beautiful. We tried the degustation menu which introduced us to a different taste with every dish. Don't miss the cheese tray. Service was friendly and attentive. Obviously all this comes at a price.

We did the introduction tasting menu, and it was fabulous. I believe it was 4 courses, though they brought at least 3 additional small plates from the chef. For a Michelin star restaurant, it was VERY affordable. My favorite was probably the Grouper Mousse, which doesn't sound totally appealing, but it was fantastic. We added the two glasses of wine,... This gourmet restaurant is located in a renovated traditional Athenian building. It has an amazing roof garden that is very well hidden and you cannot imagine it exists in the neighborhood. We went there spring time and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We had a menu that was specially designed for "Days of awarded gourmet restaurants in Athens", that takes... More

Spondi is a great gastro-dining experience that we had to close out a food tour-de-force while in Athens. Service was impeccable, we opted for a dynamite tasting menu that included a clever crab wonton (wrapped not in phyllo but paper thin raddish) grouper mousse (yum) along with a thickest and juiciest veal filet I have ever tasted. Wine pairings were... More

We had a nice table at the outside area. Discrete and nice atmosphere and ambience, as always. We arrived for dinner at 21:00 and chose the "Discovery" menu, which is a tasting menu with 4 glasses of a selection of greek wines, that costs 157 euros/person. This is the best and most expensive degustation menu of the restaurant. The menu... More

Outstanding in every way - food, service, tableware, setting. By rule gourmet in every sense of the word. Coming from NYC we are food snobs and this food and dining experience holds up to the best of them. Go is all I can say and you will be delighted!!!!

Staying in Pangrati

Neighborhood Profile
Pangrati
The elongated Panathenaic Stadium, built for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, acts as grand gateway to the otherwise purely Athenian neighborhood of Pangrati. This area of typical small squares, busy main roads and residential streets will give you a clear sense of what living in this metropolis is like. A walk up quiet Markou Mousourou Street on the west side of the stadium will bring you past the First National Cemetery to Mets, home to many expats. Turn right to reach the charming Platia Varnava. East of the stadium, commercial Eratosthenous Street leads to rather nondescript Platia Plastira, from where Effranoros Street continues uphill to Platia Profiti Ilia, crowned by a huge church. Among the standard four- to six-story apartment blocks that typify Athens, Pangrati also boasts some genuinely authentic tavernas and the odd trendy bar.
