Very good fish restaurant (but note change of address)

This very good restaurant has a fairly limited menu - largely fish - but the meals are excellent and the prices reasonable. The restaurant has moved from its former address (Rua Monsenhor Daniel Machado 180) to larger, modern premises just around the corner at Avenida do Campo do Castelo 45.

The food is properly made but not special as we were told it would be. Fresh and well prepared fish but just that. Service that needs investing in, so do be joyful when entering and after a while that will be what is given in return. Deserts are not a speciality. So perhaps worth looking for alternatives when you do... More

We had a delicious monkfish stew here. Having eaten lots of fish dishes around Portugal this rated as one of our favourites! It is a pretty restaurant near the port with a great range of fresh fish on offer.

First of all, therestaurant has moved its entrance around the corner and it looks like recently refurbished. A bit more modern. However the quality of the food is still very good. We had grilled sole which was to perfection. We did see several other dishes come by that also looked very tastefull. Prices are very reasonable we had to pay... More

It is such a treat to have fresh grilled fish at reasonable prices. YOu see the fish when you come in and they grill it right at the entrance to the restaurant. The restaurant is like a long hallway with no windows, so don't expect much 'ambiance' - but do go here for a wonderful meal of grilled fish. We... More

The food at Taberna do Valentim is excellent. They have a menu with several types of grilled fish and some stews. If you decide to take grilled fish, it's always good to ask what's fresh today and you most certainly won't get disappointed. If they bring you some fried codfish balls before the dinner, you have to try them. In... More

Nice place for eating dinner with reasonable prices. Restaurant looks to be among favourites, because it was quite full and staff pretty busy. We ordered cataplana and stew fish and we received two big pots of food we almost didn't manage to eat :) althought the women at the next table didn't look so happy about their sardines...

We are seafood addicts so not that easily pleased. When you see turbot ,sea bass and sole main courses all priced around 12 euro it is time to smile. When the food appears perfectly cooked and in generous portions, then the smile turns to a grin. We dined here twice during a four day visit to Viana do Castelo and... More
