On the first floor of a historical site in Porto's downtown, recently opened a small quiet restaurant, called Camafeu. Go back to the times where you had a meal at your grandparent's place, where the decor was romantic but eclectic and where you can indulge yourself on mouth-watering but not-pretentious food.At dinner time, you are invited to stay for a late drink and enjoy, through the big windows, the scenery of the square bellow (Praca Carlos Alberto, named after our late King). We invite you to try the tender Sirloin steak or the Duck with figg jam, or the Prawn porridge among other fabulous appetizers and main-courses. Everybody will love our home-made desserts. Don't forget to ask for the famous Portuguese wine from the Douro region, either it's Port, White or Red.

Excellent experience

We booked this up after reading Tripadvisor reviews and it was up to the high standards recorded. Beautiful building on a lovely little square. We had a shared starter of scallops for 11€ which was tasty. Then the octopus and monkfish. Both were really delicious and very generous helpings. We... read more

We researched a shortlist for evening meal and decided upon Camafeu, it was wonderful. It is set in a square and has a blue wooden door which then leads upstairs to the restruant. We thought at first it might be closed but noticed the candles lit on the tables in the window and glad we noticed them or we might... More

We were quite early and had the pick of the tables so had the window table overlooking the square. We had an excellent meal accompanied by a good bottle of wine. After the meal we were given a complimentary glass of port which rounded off a very enjoyable meal

My wife and I visited Camafeu on a quiet wednesday evening. The entrance was quit unexpected as it was a old closed door next to a barbershop or so. This door let to a cold empty hallway leading to a stair. One level higher another closed door with a small sign "restaurant Camafeu" let to the actual restaurant which was... More

Ate here with a group of friends and we experienced friendly service and food prepared to a very high standard. A number of other reviews make mention of the restaurant being somewhat hidden away. In reality it is on the first floor and access is through a small blue door directly off the square but study the photographs on their... More

We came to Camafeu for our last dinner out in Porto after a weeks honeymoon, and I am so glad that we did. The food surpassed all my expectations. I was impressed by the menu (was so hard to pick!) - each dish was beautifully cooked and presented. The dessert menu was as innovative and diverse as the savoury food,... More

Quite hard to find, camafeu is a cosy restaurant at the first Floor. A very friendly waiter assisted us during the dinner. I had lovely ravioli of goat cheese, my girlfriend veel steak. Recommended for couples.

I went for dinner here with a friend while visiting Porto and could not recommend it highly enough. It was difficult to find after dark as the restaurant is upstairs so look at the tripadvisor pictures so you'll recognise the entrance! The service was 1st class, the food was fantastic and for the meal we had the price was very... More
