Description: In the first quarter of 2010, Rui Paula returned to his homeland, OPorto, with the opening of the DOP restaurant. The new space is situated in the Palace of the Arts - Talent Factory, in Largo de S. Domingos in the historic city center, classified as World Heritage. This building is full of history. It began as the S. Domingos Convent and remained active since the fourteenth century, as a venue for auctions and council meetings. In 1834, served as the headquarters of the Lisbon (later Portugal Bank), and between 1934 and 1989 hosted the Douro Insurance Company. The Palace of Arts, now under the jurisdiction of the Youth Foundation, aims to "establish itself as a center of creativity and innovation of national and international excellence, professionally promoting young designers / artists, and be the dynamic center of the historic center as a cluster of arts and creative industries, enhancing its ability to attract creative professionals and tourism." The concept of the Palace of Arts fits perfectly in the Rui Paula project, who understands the gastronomy field as a creation with a strong cultural component. DOP has been designed to operate as a good taste, space cosmopolitan and yet familiar, and the generator of exciting dining experiences. The restaurant, with capacity for 65 people is provided with the latest equipment and has two distinct and complementary spaces: one show cooking, where the service is faster and more economical, and a traditional but innovative cuisine and dinning room.

We were pleased with the delicious lunch. The pork shoulder was immensely tender as was the grilled Octopus. The carrot soup had a serene texture but was tasteless. The desserts weren't innovative. The Nytimes unfairly built expectations and they also forgot to mention the tasting menu is 65 euros and the 'locals' daily menu is 20. However, I will return... More

The smell of toilet stone in the entrance area is not the best proof for a restaurant of one of the famous chefs of Oporto. But this might be a temporary problem. But being arrogant and making honeurs only at the tables of VIP or so-called VIP´s and don´t say anything to the crowd is poor habit or shall I... More

Very nice restaurant. Modern and delicious remakings of traditional portuguese cuisine. Attentive and professional staff. Comfortable and almost informal setting. Very good wine list. Very well located in the city historical centre. Worth going. Bravo the chef and staff!

Stopped by for lunch with friends. Had an amazing meal, food excellent - presentation beautiful - service impeccable. It is not cheap, and maybe on local scale it can be called expensive, but if you look at the quality of experience and compare it to similar quality in other countries - this is a very fair price. The meal of... More

For Portuguese standards, this restaurant is expensive, but the food, service and decor are well worth the price. The traditional 'francesinha' (meaning little frenchie) is done in an innovative way, and makes for a great appetizer. The portion size of the sandwich is also very manageable. The mushroom risotto is a must have main, in my opinion that is. I... More

Stumbling across this restaurant near our hotel jogged my husband's memory of an article about Chef Rui Paula's DOP. Luckily, the restaurant wasn't busy so we walked right in. We liked the food so much we ate here on two of our three nights in Porto. Sadly, I only sketchily noted what we consumed, because I didn't want to be... More

We went to Rui Paula's DOP restaurant in Porto with a group of friends during our weekend trip there. We had traditional portugese sausage with scrambled eggs, tripe, scallops, octopus, slowcooked pork - the food is traditional Portugese but with a modern and elegant twist and truly delicious. Staff was friendly and attentive and knew a lot about food and... More

Not knowing our way around Porto we were delighted when a member of staff at our excellent B&B (1872 Riverhouse) recommended DOP to us as it was quite the best meal we've enjoyed for ages. The staff are clearly trained to be intensely attentive, which can be intimidating, but their knowledge of each dish was superb and the results well... More
