Description: In the first quarter of 2010, Rui Paula returned to his homeland, OPorto...
In the first quarter of 2010, Rui Paula returned to his homeland, OPorto, with the opening of the DOP restaurant. The new space is situated in the Palace of the Arts - Talent Factory, in Largo de S. Domingos in the historic city center, classified as World Heritage. This building is full of history. It began as the S. Domingos Convent and remained active since the fourteenth century, as a venue for auctions and council meetings. In 1834, served as the headquarters of the Lisbon (later Portugal Bank), and between 1934 and 1989 hosted the Douro Insurance Company. The Palace of Arts, now under the jurisdiction of the Youth Foundation, aims to "establish itself as a center of creativity and innovation of national and international excellence, professionally promoting young designers / artists, and be the dynamic center of the historic center as a cluster of arts and creative industries, enhancing its ability to attract creative professionals and tourism." The concept of the Palace of Arts fits perfectly in the Rui Paula project, who understands the gastronomy field as a creation with a strong cultural component. DOP has been designed to operate as a good taste, space cosmopolitan and yet familiar, and the generator of exciting dining experiences. The restaurant, with capacity for 65 people is provided with the latest equipment and has two distinct and complementary spaces: one show cooking, where the service is faster and more economical, and a traditional but innovative cuisine and dinning room.

Fantastic

This was a great culinary experience together with really great wines that were suggested to us. The chef and the crew are talented and serve very tasty food, well cooked and presented. The service is good and efficient. I highly recommend this place, the best restaurant in Porto

Trust me on this one, folks: DOP is great. They serve imaginative, wonderful, let’s say, nouvelle Portuguese cuisine, in a great location, with excellent, friendly service. My wife and I forewent the two tasting menus in favor of a la carte. Between the amuse bouche, appetizer, main course, pre-dessert change of taste, and dessert, my only problem was that, scraping... Our dinner on Saturday was amazing. We had stumbled across the sister restaurant DOC on a trip to the Douro Valley and were keen to eat at DOP. The service was excellent from start to finish - attentive without being intrusive. We decided against either of the tasting menus (although people around us seemed very happy with them). The waitress... More

The building and the furnitures of this elegant restaurant are very nice. Also the location is great. The food is good maybe little too expensive), but the service is not at the expected level at all. Very pretentious, incredibly slow and not so competent. In general I wouldn't come back.

The cooking at this modern Portuguese restaurant was good. The duck, John Dory and scallops were all very nice. What let this place down was slow, inattentive service. We waited an hour for our starters and the wine (which was fabulous once it arrived) and the staff, whilst apologetic, seemed lost and befeft of leadeship in a busy restaurant. This... More

This amazing restaurant is just down from where we are staying. We arrived about 8.20 without a booking but were welcomed warmly and seated at a table in a full length window. The service and attention to detail is really quite special. All the staff seem to be multi-lingual and made us feel comfortable asking questions about the food and... More

Excellent service. Innovative food that was presented well. Great wine list. A chance to meet the chef. I enjoyed the meal but sadly was not 'wowed' for the price.

1st.... Forget the Black Pudding starter... so small you need magnifying glass. Disappointing. Moving on. Great looking Restaurant in a nice area of Porto . This was the most expensive restaurant of our 4 night stay in Porto & our lease favourite. I guess you're paying for celebrity driven food. In this case Rui Paula, and its just not worth... More

When you pay more than 100 euros p p you expect to be surprised, to have a dinner over your expectations... With so many good restaurants this definitely it is not one that I would recommend no one to go... Nothing was wrong...but nothing was good enough... It was not a pleasure and I will not go back again.

I took my clients to Rui Paula DOP. First of all, they were great when I booked the table. And second, on the actual evening - the staff made our night a great night – with great service and fantastic food, and were very compliant to all of our “special needs” (allergies, intolerances, pregnancies etc). I'm definetly going back next... More
