Description: In the first quarter of 2010, Rui Paula returned to his homeland, OPorto...
In the first quarter of 2010, Rui Paula returned to his homeland, OPorto, with the opening of the DOP restaurant. The new space is situated in the Palace of the Arts - Talent Factory, in Largo de S. Domingos in the historic city center, classified as World Heritage. This building is full of history. It began as the S. Domingos Convent and remained active since the fourteenth century, as a venue for auctions and council meetings. In 1834, served as the headquarters of the Lisbon (later Portugal Bank), and between 1934 and 1989 hosted the Douro Insurance Company. The Palace of Arts, now under the jurisdiction of the Youth Foundation, aims to "establish itself as a center of creativity and innovation of national and international excellence, professionally promoting young designers / artists, and be the dynamic center of the historic center as a cluster of arts and creative industries, enhancing its ability to attract creative professionals and tourism." The concept of the Palace of Arts fits perfectly in the Rui Paula project, who understands the gastronomy field as a creation with a strong cultural component. DOP has been designed to operate as a good taste, space cosmopolitan and yet familiar, and the generator of exciting dining experiences. The restaurant, with capacity for 65 people is provided with the latest equipment and has two distinct and complementary spaces: one show cooking, where the service is faster and more economical, and a traditional but innovative cuisine and dinning room.

Excellent

A little more expensive than some of the other restaurants, but you get what you pay for..Sadly we only found this on the last night, but the meal was excellent, with superb service and friendly staff. Good choice of food well cooked. Would highly recommend.

We visited for dinner and thought the restaurant was top quality. They were flexible and allowed us to swop an item in the sea tasting menu for another. We swopped out the John Dory with lime risotto with the sea bass and lobster rice. The wine service was excellent. The sommelier took the effort to check in with us and... More

We went for dinner and at 7:30 PM we were there. They received us in a very Portuguese style, or Port style, with a small Porto White wine, and all the night was a kind of celebration for us. They have a lot of choices and it is easy to overeat, but remember: you are on vacation!

This is seriously professional stuff. Very good ambiance and service and very clever presentation. Not cheap but not wildly expensive either. Well worth a visit. Aperitif, two sea menus, water and a bottle of wine just under 200 euros. For world class that's OK.

Contrary to a previous reviewer's comments, this place is not overrated or overpriced. It is a fine dining restaurant with fresh food made in a designer fashion. We arrived just after 9pm and though without reservations, we immediately seated in a cat-bird like seat overlooking the kitchen. The staff was super polite and no fewer than five engaged us at... We were very excited to go here after all the reviews but we found the meal to be overrated and overpriced. The portions are very small, which can be expected in a fancy place, but couple that with awful service and we were not happy with our experience. The servers took forever to bring us small things like water and... More

Wow is all we can say--except maybe perfection! The food was fabulous, every course. It was innovative and different while at the same time welcoming and exciting. It is difficult to select one dish which everyone thought was the best as they were all great. The wine sections were outstanding for every course. Of course the service was wonderful, as... More

Even though I found the atmosphere of the restaurant a bit cold, we really enjoyed the culinary experience. Impeccable service and excellent food. Each dish was original, tasty and nicely presented. Highly recommended for food and wine lovers.

Absolutely great!!!! The meal, the service, the interior decoration. Especially one of my friends is a vegetarian, and turned out she likes the risotto very much. It’s a release for me, because it is very difficult to find vegetarian food in Portugal. I personally like the grilled garlic shrimp a lot, it’s the best one I had in Portugal.

Everything here is absolutely wonderful: the atmosphere, the service, and of course, the food. I had one of the best pastas I had ever tasted. My husband started with mouth watering clams followed by sea bass. Every dish is prepared in a creative manner. We were shopping for a restaurant to hold a rehearsal dinner. This restaurant could not accommodate... More
