Traditional food in heart of city

Situated in the Aliados Square, this is the place to go to for traditional Portuguese cuisine, without modern twists. Service is efficient from the uniformed waiters and the restaurant itself is large and bright with colourful murals. While the food may not be exactly exciting, it is authentic. The... read more

We were looking for a restaurant we found on trip advisor. We couldn't find it but happened upon Café Guarany. The place was busy. The Maiter'd gave us a warm welcome and showed us the menu. There was background music from a grand piano and we were seated at a table with a white linen table cloth. The place had... More

Stopped here for a traditional Francesinha, and it was very nice, though the sauce was less spicy than some. Also had a traditional desert served with port which was also very nice. Very nice traditional cafe with some live piano music. Very popular in the evening that I was there with a few larger groups waiting outside to get in.

We enjoyed our evening here and we're lucky to get there early enough to get a table. Good mix of locals and tourists. One waiter we had was great, another not so efficient and friendly. Food was nice but not entirely memorable. Great to hear some live fado, then the place became full, many locals just having drinks or snacks.

Absolutely great food. A little more "fancy" than we are haha, but absolutely awesome food. We barely started eating and were talking about coming back. Wait staff were wonderful except for our waiter who was extremely professional yet not customer friendly. He acted as if we were in his way being there. Otherwise, great food and atmosphere and great rest... More

We went there for having lunch in a Sunday and the restaurant was not crowdy. We had the goat and it was really good. The service was equally good! They also had someone playing piano and they didn't not charge us for that like other restaurants did it! Very nice place!

An enjoyable live music while you dinner. Unfortunately the food took too much to arrive (more than 1 hour) and I guess this was a particular case because other tables received their meal sooner than our even they arrived later. Meals are acceptable if you like meat and fish, so be ready to eat a pasta if you are vegetarian.... More

Lovely restaurant, pianist in background. Wonderful Daily Specials, we had the monkish and duck - both prepared perfectly. Crowded but not load, good mix of tourists and locals.

Very good place to eat, food very excellent and waiters professional. The classic art deco look is fab. Also has live music - great Fado.

Originally it was opened in 1933. After the big succes of the Majestic cafe, they tried also to reconstract the old atmosphere of the cafe. They succeded more or less. The waiters are very polite, the food is really good. This "histroic café, restaurant" is on the corner of Avenida dos Aliados.
