We dined at Avo Maria at the upstairs window table. You have a fantastic view over to the Port Cavas. The ambiance was very romantic. The food was very good and the service attentive. Tip - in Portogual when you are seated you are served wine, olives and crackers. If you touch/eat them you will be charged for them even... More

Good food but overpriced. My grilled octopus was drenched in oil (my guess it was from potatoes) but still good and nicely served.

I have visited this restaurant a few times, normally when I had business colleagues on from out of town. The menu is quite large and has a few items not found on your typical Porto menu. For me, service has always been great, and the waiters remembered me after the first visit - always nice! The people I have taken... More

We had an early dinner upstairs in front of the picture window as opposed to outside for people-watching. It was quiet and the ambience of the old sandstone architecture inside was just what we wanted. Beautiful view of the bridge and water activities while also capturing the Ribiera vendors and juggling clown who was also performing for children right in... More

We had dinner in this restaurant, on the terrace. There was a very nice atmosphere: people walking on the Ribeira, little kiosk with colorful goods... On the terrace next to the one of Avo Maria, here was life music: fado, Spanish guitar, evergreens... The view on the Dom Luis bridge was really amazing, especially when the sun had set and... More

We were walking the river front for a friendly, nice looking place for dinner. We had 1 of 2 occupied tables inside, overlooking the river. Beautifully restored, colorful original art, romantic setting. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. The salad was fresh and delicious. We had some of the few Italian dishes and they were excellent. Fun and good,... More

Eight of us went to Porto last weekend for a break. On the first evening we decided on this restaurant which is in a tourist area. Food was poor with only 1 or 2 of us saying it was average. Meat appeared to be cheap cuts with fat and gristle. Yuk! Service was at best average. Go to Chez Lapin... More

We wanted to eat at the Ribeira, but after a day of walking and mingling with the crowds we were hoping to find a place a little away from the noise. This is it. Avo Maria is near the bridge, so it has a fabulous view. But if you go early enough in the afternoon and put your name down... More

if you don't want the 'couvert' of (probably thawed) prawns, cheese, olives, bread (butter costs extra, I think) then just decline them (as you should do in all Porto restaurants, otherwise you may find the bill quite a bit higher thaan you expected. Fish soup was fine, salt cod was a bit of a disappointment - if it is soaked... More
