appearences can be deceiving ... in a nice way

Well, try to picture this: you are walking through beautiful Porto's waterfront under the sun, amazed by a pictoresque, unique pace, enjoying the sun and the nice weather, in such a great mood ... you relax, feel like eating somethig typical and possibly opting out for any of those restaurants... read more

Awful place in a most beautiful setting. You sit down and straight away the bread is brought at 3€ a head, tiny bowl of tuna & cheese for 7.50€. Ordered 2 chicken, which came with spaghetti, no problem but most countries give a spoon to help eat the spaghetti! Very messy and way over salty, which obviously is to keep... More

Visited this restaurant for lunch, it was a mistake. We ordered the cod fish salad. When it arrived it was off and we asked to change it. The restaurant complied but there was a distinct change in atmosphere. It was a shame as the setting by the river is superb but it allows tourist traps like this to prosper.

We arrived at the restaurant after 8pm on a Sunday evening when the place was quieter and enjoyed the quiet surroundings with great views over the river and Ponte D Luis: amazing sun set and a musician playing his guitar at a nearby restaurant, far enough for us to have a decent conversation. My partner had an amazing swordfish and... More

I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend for lunch. We sat down and receiced some toasts/olives/butter/bread we didn't ask for (3 euro p/p) and some fried fish we didn't ask for (6,5 euro). I don't mind the 3 euro/person but 12,5 euro for things we didn't ask for? That's too much! We ordered the pasta (salmon and mushroom) which... More

Sitting only feet from the Douro, the area is packed with tourists, of course! and why not! A perfect spot for Sunday lunch in the sunlight, you can take in a lot just sitting there....there is so much to see. Perfectly grilled Dorado and tuna salad... Both excellent. A variety of wines to choose from... all fairly reasonably priced. Service... More

Was the first restaurant that ever served me soup with rice on it...fantastic! A place to visit, to have a taste of what real food is, very cosy, right in the heart of the city!

We arrived in the evening to Porto and we were hungry. The receptionist pointed to a remote location for good seafood (next day we found out she was right) but we were tired and wanted to have a meal around. Our hotel was next to the Cais da Ribeira, which is a main tourist area lined up with restaurant. We... More

It is a difficult thing to choose a restaurant in Porto, there are so many. We were walking up and down the Ribeira looking for a place to eat. All of them looked good. We were drawn to Avo Maria because of the name and the friendly waiters outside, drawing us in. The place is quaint and very clean. The... More
