Solid family restaurant.

Not haute cuisine but a good solid family-owned and run classic Portuguese restaurant. Decent selection of wines and dependable food. In the Ribeira on a tiny street.

When I was walking around the area with my wife the first impression about the place was good. Then, when inside the waiters looked distracted all the time, the food wasn't nothing special and at the end, when I offered around 12.5% tip, they did not look grateful.

Found the restaurant walking in the narrow streets behind river Drouro, they had a table and we sat down. Fish was fresh and tasty, wine was enjoyable, the waiters were nice and the service was quick. we asked for frash and homemade and they delivered. The bill was a shock, absolutely cheap for a restaurant in the centre!

My husband and I visited this restaurant twice during our short stay in Porto in August 2015. Although very busy, the food was excellent both times. Staff could not have been more helpful and knowledgeable. The owner went out of his way to get my speciality cheese - he had run out! Within ten minutes, he had a new delivery... More

We were wandering down a narrow street in Porto and decided to give Ora Viva a try. It was a great way to get a feel for the area as most of the customers were local. Food was very good as was the service. It was also nice to watch the local men having a drink after work at the... More

Excelent service and ambience. The decoration is marvelous. Top quality portuguese food. The specialty is "Polvo Assado" but if you prefer meat then "Bife à Ora Viva" is the perfect choice! ;)

This was a Guidebook recommendation but it is now recommended by us. Ora Viva is on a narrow alley along with other restaurants and cafes a block off the Douro River. The outdoor tables were typically close enough to chat with other diners and there was no view. Both nights we ordered dishes suggested by the waiter from his heart...made... More

This small restaurant was fairly busy when we went for dinner and the 2 waiters were dashing around trying to keep everyone happy and just about succeeding. Food is typical local Portuguese fish and meat with potatoes and salad. Both mine and my friends fish came floating in a lake of oil. Maybe the local way but not necessarily to... More

The Ribeira is full of riverside restaurants offering the same bland fish and meat dishes Ora Viva is in a quiet street nearby, run by a young enthusiastic team. It's small -maybe 30 covers-so best to book. Let the team guide you through the menu and follow their recommendations. We had the fish stew and a beautiful slow cooked octopus... More

Small place! a Family business! The chocos was delicious! Very tasty! My friends shared a cod (2 pax) and it was enough. Very good meal for a fair price.
