Bife à Ora Viva

Excelent service and ambience. The decoration is marvelous. Top quality portuguese food. The specialty is "Polvo Assado" but if you prefer meat then "Bife à Ora Viva" is the perfect choice! ;)

This was a Guidebook recommendation but it is now recommended by us. Ora Viva is on a narrow alley along with other restaurants and cafes a block off the Douro River. The outdoor tables were typically close enough to chat with other diners and there was no view. Both nights we ordered dishes suggested by the waiter from his heart...made... More

This small restaurant was fairly busy when we went for dinner and the 2 waiters were dashing around trying to keep everyone happy and just about succeeding. Food is typical local Portuguese fish and meat with potatoes and salad. Both mine and my friends fish came floating in a lake of oil. Maybe the local way but not necessarily to... More

The Ribeira is full of riverside restaurants offering the same bland fish and meat dishes Ora Viva is in a quiet street nearby, run by a young enthusiastic team. It's small -maybe 30 covers-so best to book. Let the team guide you through the menu and follow their recommendations. We had the fish stew and a beautiful slow cooked octopus... More

Small place! a Family business! The chocos was delicious! Very tasty! My friends shared a cod (2 pax) and it was enough. Very good meal for a fair price.

I can't believe I went to the same place as some of the other reviewers.. We all had different main courses and found them to be uninteresting and served with either a mish-mash of salad and masses of grated carrot or a huge lump of chewy cabbage, topped off with a fried egg! The desserts were 'assembled' rather than made... More

The food was very good and a fair portion for a great price. It's on a side street close to the water and we found it while meandering around and looked inside and it was too cute to pass up. There aren't too many seats inside and it's a little tight but very quaintly decorated, and there is also seating... More

Had a very good meal here. The restaurant is small with lots of character, the ceiling is covered with hanging bank notes from around the world and small coins are pushed into the cracks in the stone walls. Welcome was good and the waiters were helpful in offering advice on the menu and the wines. We had a starter to... More

Down a side street off the beaten track we enjoyed a good meal in here, neither of us eat fish but they had lots of fish dishes and everyone else seemed to be having fish. We had pork chops with rice, chips and egg. Good and hot. The restaurant is small with about 20/25 seats inside and a few outside... More

We dined here late on our first evening in Porto and while the food was rather slow in making its way to our table, the charm of the atmosphere, staff and fellow diners more than made up for it. Ora Viva seemed a little touristic but if you beat the rush a good time is assured.
