Excellent food and service

We were not expecting too much, given the other eating experiences on Madeira and the small Indian community on the island, however the standard of the food really blew us away. We were not expecting too much, given the other eating experiences on Madeira and the small Indian community on the island, however the standard of the food really blew us away. This restaurant is very difficult to find so make sure you plot it on your map before you go. It took us 3/4 of an hour wondering around the area, our noses lead us there in the end. We eat curry twice a month at least, and this was one of the best i have for years. Superb!

We are used to eating good indian food. We found this to be the only truly authentic indian restaurant out of the 3 on the island. Great food! Run by a very friendly and accommodating INDIAN owner. The chef is also clearly good! The decor/ fit out could be slightly improved but prices are reasonable. If you like Indian food,... More

It is a small restaurant in a small street, but the food is huge. Very well prepared, fresh and yummy. I'll definitely return. Don't miss it.

This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. We all chose to eat Thalis each with a different meat or fish. It was probaably the best Thali I have eaten. A good balance of dishes with your meat of choice in the the curry of your choice, tandoori pieces and pakora style,a potato and a lentil side dish. Rice and Naan... More

I had lunch at Indian House a couple of weeks ago, and I have to say it was some of the best Indian food I have tasted ANYWHERE! I have been a fan of Indian food for decades, and sampled it in many countries. However, the freshness of the spices and the freshness of the ingredients at Indian House make... More

We tried a variety of dishes but the things that really stand out are the thalis and tandoori platters which give you a great selection of food in one meal. Also highly recommended are the prawn samosas and peshwari naan bread, and the mango lassi for those who prefer not to drink beer or wine. Good friendly service and a... More

A nice Indian outside India, and UK of course... Nice welcome, good food, fair price. Just pay attention when you ask for "hot" ! It'll be a real hot Indian, that will burn any bacteria in a range of 20 km! Only "con": no air conditioning inside when I was there.

My husband and I left our hotel with the address in our heads but left the map on the bed - doh!! So, with a rough idea of where the restaurant was we walked around in circles for about half an hour before finding this amazing restaurant. It is in the area behind the cathedral in central Funchal in the... More

The restaurant is very clean and welcoming and our host very keen for us to have a wonderful meal. We ordered chicken madras and a lamb dish. Both were very tasty and beautifully cooked, however, much too much ghee was floating on the top so we couldn't finish the meal. We will return to Indian House when in Madeira next... More
