Stopped off here for pre-meal drink (on way to O Gaviao Nova further down street, also recommended!) and the place was amazing! Very knowledgeable staff, very interesting nibbles and even a discussion over various madeira wines thrown in! We will definitely be back and will stop for a meal next time, I really love this part of Funchal!

Quite nice place with an interesting menu; we had some tapas that were tastefull and nicely presented. Would have liked to go there in the late evening, interesting cultural activities.

Really interesting old bar on the street of doors. Recommended wine was excellent and so were the tapas on offer. Chorico flamed at the table, wrinkled potatoes all excellent. Tastiest lunch we had in Funchal. Strongly recommended when you want a drink and bite to eat rather than a formal meal.

And great food too. The bar was named after a famous Madeiran prostitute who worked from no 81, three doors down. Her name was Doña Joana-Rabo-de-Peixe and her tales were written by Joao Carlos Abreu. It was one of the first houses/cafes to be involved in the painted doors project and it celebrates the literary traditions of Madeira and Funchal's... More

Found this little restaurant/bar while strolling down the RUA SANTA MARIA looking at the wonderfully painted doors. It`s hard work so a beer was calling. We saw what others were eating and decided to stay for dinner it all looked so good. So impressed we ate there again on a second night. Great atmosphere, wonderful food. We will be back
