fabulous find!

Fell in here because I liked the look of the place.Sorry not to have found it earlier. The owner certainly knows how to run a restaurant. We ordered the mixed fish platecfor 2 and it was fantastic. Really bad service. After being seated I had to ask 3 times for the menu as all the waiters were too busy chatting on the street. The scallop starter was okay but one scallop was still almost raw while two were overdone. The red snapper main was extremely salty and so overcooked it was charred. The vegertables were underseasoned and... More

After an energetic we of walking we had a city day in Funchal and just needed a light lunch to help us enjoy the urban culture and art. We were charmed by the "door art in Rua de Santa Maria but alarmed at the way all the restaurants touted for business. The Tasca Literaria had the right look about it so... More

A very nice restaurant with in a beautiful little street in Funchal. The entrée was a very good shrimp with avocado. The main dish good salad and an excellent plate of lamb ribs. The staff was excellent and very kind. Explained every dish of the day, all the fish dishes.

We stopped for a light lunch and had tuna salad which was beautifully presented. It was full of fresh ingredients and served with the traditional 'cover' of garlic bread. We will come back for an evening meal.

Stumbled across this lovely unassuming restaurant in the Old Town - We were welcomed by the waiter into was a nicely decorated restaurant with an extensive menu. We decided on the scabbard fish with baked banana and passion fruit, all flavours blended really well. I opted for sea bass which was cooked to perfection! We finished with Mango & Passion... More

Located in Old Town of Funchal is THE best restaurant ! We had delicious fish ( find only in Madeira) " espada with banana". Fish which comes from deep, deep waters of Atlantic ( the fishermens catch her only at night) served with banana on top and surrounded with sweet and sour passion fruit sauce - rice , potato and... Starting with the positive facts. The service is fast and sympathetic. The restaurant is beautiful and u can seat outside while enjoying your meal. But I was disappointed with the food. Caldo Verde was more a potato soap than a cabbage soap, like it should be. And the Espetada was not prepared properly. The meat wasn't bad but it wasn't... More

Went twice to this place (behind "the Story") and had fresh dressed crab. Easily enough for two served with toasted bread. fantastically prepared and absolutely delicious, but don't bother with a starter or you'll be defeated.
