A small family owned restaurant in the old part of Funchal specialized in fish and some regional sea food. The Lapas are nice and fresh. And the fish is really tasty and well prepared. Don't expect sophistication, just really good food. Very popular among locals.

Good fish and "lapas". Skip the vegetables. Bring your own bread, the restaurant doesn't serve any (to get the good juices from lapas pan).

The only restaurant on Madeira where guests wait in line for 20 minutes to get in - and yes, it is worth it: Amazing local food, very simple, quite cheap. A must-go restaurant!

Picked by using trip advisor and is as it says. Very small and busy. Arrived at 7.00pm and were seated straight away. Husband speaks pretty good English and I ordered 2 espada 1 grilled 1 fried with 1 side of vegetables and 1 potatoes. Received 1 larger portion of espada which although meant to be filleted was full of bones... More

Jaquet would appear to be an institution in Funchal, and given its high rating on Trip Advisor, we opted to try it for ourselves. We tried to book a table earlier in the day but were told that they don't take reservations, but as long as we were there by 7.30 in the evening, we should get seated. This was... More

We arrived early (7.15pm) and had the chance to get a table in this small but excellent restaurant. Very limited menu (only local fish and shell-fish) but everything is fresh and very well prepared and served by a charming couple.

We decided to try Jaquet on the basis of reviews. We were not looking for an up-market experience, just well-cooked food amid the tourist traps. We were certainly not disappointed. Decent wine, fish cooked to order, entertained by a hard-working and expert team of husband and wife who seem to cope alone with this buzzing little place. The price tag... More

It's easy to find but trickier to get into. It was closed first time we went & then when it was open it was full. We persevered & got there shortly after 7. The first thing I noticed was a sign which intuition told me said we don't take credit cards. So only having a limited amount of cash on... More
