We chanced on this place on our first night & loved it. Traditional & good portions for filling up after long journey and getting in the mood with the Music! Which sets the continental mood. The Sweet potato is to die for. Went back for our last night to sample the local fish rounded off by the most delicious Chocolate... More

This hole little narrow street filled with restaurants is just for tourists. Venda da donna maria is located in the beginning of it if you are walking from the city center. From the outside the restaurant seems really enjoyable. Did order fish, tasteless with boring potatoes and carrots how creative is that? A bit pricey for what you get.

Lovely decor but I didn't like being seated at a table so close to the next one that I felt as though I was intruding on the poor young couple trying to talk over dinner. Service was very good and the menu selection excellent. Interesting reading another reviewers comment about high salt content. My traditional fish dish, with banana was... More

Just had a lovely lunch here. Persuaded in by one of the charming waiters, but no hard sell. Shared garlic bread starter, then both had tuna steak, or more accurately steaks! Very large pieces of fish with potatoes and vegetables. We ordered roast sweet potatoes to go with it which were lovely but not necessary. 12€ for a reasonable bottle... More

The staff are very friendly here an the atmosphere is nice. I had an excellent fish meal, but my wife had a chicken dish which looked lovely, but had far too much salt in it (so had to leave much of it). It was a shame because the ambience was good.

This is a tiny restaurant serving traditional Madeiran fare. Apparently the theme is based on the old grocery stores once located on this site, hence the caps worn by the waiters. The service is friendly as is the atmosphere, and the location in the Old Town makes for a pleasant stroll by the Old Fort walls an excellent means of... More

Been meaning to try this restaurant for a while since one we used to use in the Old Town closed down. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and served with a smile. We'll be going back!

As many restaurants were closed on New Yer's Day, we were looking for a first one open and so we got to Donna Maria. At 2 pm the place was full but we managed to get a table for two at the window. We ordered lapas (8.5 Euro), a selection of fish (3 types of Madeira fish - 15 Euro),... More
