We went here for lunch and chose a bowel of tomato soup which was really good. Seved with local garlic buttered bread which again to go was very nice. This is a very good place for lunch.

Vendada Donna Maria is situated in the old part of Funchal. The restaurant serve a mix of traditional Madeira food and Portuguese food. The staff is very friendly and will advice you in any way. We had some of the traditional dishes and is was wonderful. And, as a surprise, they served a piece of cake for my wife, as... More

Popped in here on a whim without checking any reviews. After our starters (banana and ham, mango and prawns) we were both full. For mains we had the Madeiran beef and the chicken in beer. Both were absolutely delicious but neither of us could finish. The food is fantastic, the portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The staff... More

Each time we walked past Venda da Donna Maria we were approached by a friendly member of staff. We eventually gave it a try. Thought the tables were a little close together, but this only added to the atmosphere along the narrow Rua de Santa Maria. We enjoyed a good rustic chicken main course (quite a large portion size) and... More

We last visited in December last year. It was good and I said to them we´d be back in June this year and we were. Excellent service, another really good Madeira style meal at reasonable cost. Definitely one of the little gems along the Rua de Santa Maria in Funchal Old Town. We´ll be back next year!

On our last day in Funchal and before we drove to the Airport we wanted to have lunch in somewhere "special". It was the taxi driver who we spoke to the night before who recommended us to Venda da Donna Maria. What a wonderful 'find' and a perfect end to our holiday. The location on the street, watching people and... More

You never know sometimes with street cafes/restaurants. They seem so inviting, but those photos of meals look so artificial don't they. Anyway, this place was great and good value. Friendly, right in the old town, with the late sun coming right down the street. Opposite a surrealist art exhibition playing evocative blues music. Great tuna and great fish soup.

We chanced on this place on our first night & loved it. Traditional & good portions for filling up after long journey and getting in the mood with the Music! Which sets the continental mood. The Sweet potato is to die for. Went back for our last night to sample the local fish rounded off by the most delicious Chocolate... More
