Good food!

Had the bacalao. My partner had the tuna. The tuna was a little dry, but the cod was great! We sat pretty close to the table next to us, but it didn't bother us.

We have been to the Donna Maria twice and on both occasions had a fantastic evening. The first time we went in as they were advertising a Fado Evening. We weren't disappointed. Monica Pinto was wonderful and the food was delicious. The staff are all so lovely and very friendly. We returned on our last night as we had enjoyed... More

This is one of many similar establishments along the back streets of funchal. Its hard to differentiate ... For us this one had proper cotton table covers!! Menu was same as rest ..... Service and food the same ..... All adequate but zero wow factor. Average stuff. Also a little more expensive but still low in real terms.

Stopped here very late one evening. Most places were either closed or closing. We had piri piri chicken and garlic and chicken. Came with Chucky style chips and seasonal veg. All tasted lovely. Although it was late were were made to feel very welcome and not rushed at all. A very nice atmosphere on one of the small streets of... More

I first went to this restaurant because they were advertising a Fado evening and I fancied having a listen to that; the menu looked good and the prices were the same as elsewhere, so with the added bonus of some live music, it seemed a good choice. The food was actually very good indeed, as was the service. I had... More

A lovely traditional restaurant found in the heart of the old town in the street of painted doors. It was nice to stop and have a lunch snack and sit outside and watch the world pass by. Staff were helpful and friendly and the choice on the menu was good and prices reasonable.

My wife and I ate at this restaurant having spotted they were having a Fado evening, and we thought it would be nice to hear some traditional music in a restaurant setting. The restaurant is quite traditional, and prides itself on serving 'home style cooking', which is a lovely contrast to some of the more modern style restaurants in Old... More

We had really great dishes, along with the delightful ambiance. Thank you for that. The downside was the fiasco after the food was enjoyed: we asked ahead-of-time whether credit cards were accepted. It turns out they couldn't process *any* VISA cards, and, rather than owning up to it, they became unhelpful and petulant. (We know the cards worked because we'd... More

I'm very sorry to hear that. We made a complaint to our Automatic Payment provider and now we have a few more contracts. I understand that it was very unprofessional from us.. all I can say, is that we've learned something with this situation. Thanks for your visit and thanks for your review. More
