Really friendly staff who spoke good English. Food was OK although it was quantity not quality as far as the meat dishes were concerned. Good red wine by the glass. Outside seating is cramped.

We stumbled across this restaurant while wandering around the old part of town. Set in a quiet back Street the location was was perfect to promote a calm tranquil meal. The staff were both helpful and informative, providing help with their well appointed menu of locally dishes. We found a table on the street, and settled into a lovely meal.... More

Spotted this little street and it's restaurants from the cable car. Sat in Donna Maria just for GnT but after looking at the menu decided to stay for dinner. We had sausage with lentils to start then liver and piri piri chicken for main. All delicious and washed down with a bottle of green wine (recommended by the couple next... More

On our first visit to the restaurant, I had the tuna, my husband had the mackerel, on our second visit, I tried the beef and my husband had the mackerel !! Friendly staff, good portions, great atmosphere, and highly recommended. We are only in Funchal for 4 nights, and we have already been there twice, I expect we will return... More

The place has nice atmosphere with very friendly staff dressed in traditional costumes. The beer served was nice and chilled. The wine selection was very good. The food served was excellent. We would recommend Piri Piri Chicken. One of the best restaurant we visited in Madeira. We had a nice window table (inside) as it was bit cool in the... More

Service was ok and the girls were attentive enough but the food was both disappointing and overpriced. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated in a cubby hole that had damp marks and ripped upholstery. We asked to be moved and were but unfortunately the evening didn't improve. Won't be back!

I had asked a local guy that we met where he would go, in Funchal, to eat Espetada. He said Venda da Donna Maria, so we tried it and enjoyed it so much we went back the next day too. There was a nice atmosphere to this restaurant, the staff were attentive and helpful and the food was good. I... More
