Good food but solala service

Without a reservation we went to the taj mahal. We got a nice table. We ordered mixed samosas as starters followed by tandoori chicken and some lamb. And a bottle of rose wine. The samosas got served with 4 sauces. And we liked them. The tandoori was excellentbin our opinion. The lamb good... read more

Excellent food competitly priced staff welcoming and very friendly well worth a visit if you want a change from the Madeira cuisine. Try the Kheer for desert (I think it is how it is spelt), rice pudding with a difference but delicious. Share one if you can't manage one on your own, however "one mans meat".

If you like good Indian food served with flair in clean pleasant surroundings this is a must visit locaation. Strongly recommended by my nearby hotel who knew we were Vegetarian we took the 50 metre walk uphill (take it slowly as you are then faced with 30 very steep steps into the venue but persevere it is worth it!) We... More

Returned to this restaurant after visiting a few years ago it was as good as we remembered. Great choice and excellent quality of food. Quality over quantity- something most Indian restaurants in the UK seem to forget. Would thoroughly recommend to any visitors to Funchal.

Just been to the Taj, nice clean resturant however the wait for food was very long..1:30mins...and wasn't that good. The portion size were small, my chicken dish only had 5 small pieces...not enough for one!!...I do not recommend this....

The food was excellent, the staff were friendly & efficient and it was great value. We are 2 adult vegetarians & 1 teenager who is omnivorous ..we all found lots of excellent options. We visited twice (it was adjacent to our hotel) but noticed that some other hotel guests visited almost every day..so they are definitely getting it right.

We had a meal here for our anniversary. A very clean popular place to eat. The meal was lovely and a relaxing place. Very well presented and friendly staff.

Service is not their strongest ability. Entrees are very bad, lack of flavor. But indian dishes, rice and garlic bread was fantastic. I certainly can go back again even with the no good service.

Opted for a walk in around 9pm on a quiet Tuesday night ... Restaurant was 25% full Staff were polite enough but a little lacking in enthusiasm. We had to ask for Poppadoms and pickles to start ! Beer was at the top end of pricing in Madeira for a 500ml Coral draft was 3-50 Euros. We ordered a Lamb... More

Sadly disappointing after looking forward to return here after some years. We sat at 7.30 and were given drinks and menus straight away, and our order taken immediately. The restaurant was full. We did not receive popadoms which other tables were given as a matter of course, but our starters arrived not even 5 minutes after ordering, which were cleared... More
