Lovely place, good value for money

We ate here twice on our holiday and can't fault either the food or the service. We were a large group and service was attentive and quick. Food quality was good and we all enjoyed the atmosphere and the night.

Very handy for eating if you are staying at the Pestana Carlton which we were. Had a table on the terrace overlooking the sea. Poppadoms and accompaniments were brought quickly along with the wine. Then we waited an hour and 20 minutes for very poor food. Other people sat nearby paid for their drinks and left before the food came.... More

Have eaten her twice in last 3 weeks. The second time to try and disprove our disapiontments. The chef seems only to be able to make one texture and flavour of sauce for different curries. The Chicken Jalfrezie was a notable exception however. The place exuded wonderfull aromas that were not matched on the plate alas

Deciding we wanted Indian food my wife and I visited Taj Mahal. Whilst the food was OK the service was appalling. Long waits for food and the bill. The service was so bad we saw two groups leave after waiting an age to order. Only visit visit if you have plenty of spare time.

We had dinner in this restaurant last week. We ate upstairs, the ambience was good, so was the service. However I think the food was a bit bland and scrimped on. My husband had chicken jalfrezi, not a great deal of chicken. I had a very watery palak paneer. It was hunt the paneer. Not badly priced but as above... More

Being from Birmingham we couldn't possibly be on holiday for a week without going for a CURROIE! Really authentic and lovely service on the beautiful roof terrace. All of the dishes you'd expect to see at an Indian restaurant in the UK, served alongside delicious Portuguese white wine and beer. Will definitely return next time we are in Funchal.

We wanted to try an Indian and chose Taj Mahal as is was close to where we were staying. There are better rated Indian restaurants in Funchal and it is clear to see why. The food was pretty decent and well flavoured and reasonably priced. We only had a main course and it took 35 minutes to come out. It... More
