Magnificent breakfast

We chose to have our breakfast each days here during our stay. With a wide choice of fruits, cereals, yoghurts and breads, we never needed to have lunch! Cooked breakfasts were also available to order.

We ate twice at Xopana during a recent stay at the hotel. The dining room has fabulous views over the bay of Funchal and has a really nice atmosphere. The 'Bali meets modern Mediterranean' style works well. Service was attentive, friendly and well-paced without ever being intrusive. The food was consistently good and one or two dishes (fish carpaccio, cod,... More

Cooked by a renowned chef and the wine selection kept us satisfied every evening. The fish is fresh and tender. Even if you don't stay at Choupana hills resort and spa, you must visit the restaurant.

Expensive but the only option if you are in the resort, the alternative snack bar closes around 7pm. Food beautifully displayed when served.

Much has been said, the new chief has prepared a superb menu, plenty of choices for fish and meat ans should you stay 1 week in the hotel you dont have to eat twice the same dish. Food was really outstanding, this is gastronomy but with a lot of creativity in the choice of local ingredients, light food, plenty of... More

If you are a foodie, this is for you. Top quality served with panache. Menu is varied and has lots of fish, plus meats and pasta.

We stayed at the resort for a week in November and ate at the restaurant twice and were very pleased with the presentation and flavour of the food. The Beef is a very nice dish and had lovely vegetables and a potato gratin. The Pumpkin soup was divine, and they brought out samples of other dishes for us to try... More

if you dare to go steep roads up the mountain (11 Euros for taxi) or happen to pass by on the Camacha-levada you are rewarded with high cuisine and a spectacular vie over downtown Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean

Liked the variety of meat and fish dishes Liked the risotto and spaghetti vegetarian options Liked how the chef went out of his way to recommend and prepare additional off-menu vegetarian options Liked the views Liked the friendly, smiley and professional waiting staff Disliked (occasionally only!) rather slow service Disliked not being able to eat outside (sometimes due to the... We stayed half board and are glad we did. Breakfast was Substantial and enjoyable. Dinner was excellent. We stayed 10 nights. I chose a different fish option most evenings with the odd repeat, though this was not a problem. My wife chose the meat dishes, again with a couple of repeats. The deserts were outstanding. The portions may seem on... More
