Well worth the walk up the hill - otherwise you won't get spectacular views over Funchal and out across the ocean! ;) Well priced (€35 for 2 mains, 1 side, 1 dessert, 4 drinks) Wonderful food (compared to the over priced touristy rubbish were served in Funchal center). Were more than happy to make one of their veggie starter options... More

Off the beaten track, but really worth the trip! Excellent local food, friendly service, combined with one of the best views over Funchal! Don't miss it!

The restaurant is quite big with a panoramic view over Funchal. Great! It is famous for its espetada-dishes, but it offers also the typical espada-fish and chicken. We have eaten bbq-chicken, espada with banana, espada with cheese and shrimps and espetada do lomo (prices: 7€ for 1/2 portion chicken, between € 11-15 for the other dishes). It was ok and... More

This restaurant sits on the side of the island with a beautiful view, we sat by the window in the evening. I ordered a well done espetada and it came out beautifully. The beef was tender with no fat on and cooked to perfection. We ordered side portions of chips, rice and salad to go with the meal. Service was... More

Traditional Madeiran food, generous portions, beautifully served by friendly staff and, of course, magnificent views. Lots of seating, inside and out, so you would normally expect to get in. We will definitely return.

It's hard for a Dane to walk steep up the hill .... But the quality of the food at Zarcos, as well as the discrete kindness of the staff's made us do exactly that three times (so far) this week. The sign in front of the building says Restaurant and Grill - and the word "Grill" is not false advertising.... More

Caught the number 38 bus from Funchal to one of the best meals I have enjoyed in a long time. The garlic bread was wonderful and the espaditas came on metre-long skewers. As the sunset over the harbour, a large cruise liner slipped from its moorings. They could not have been eating a finer meal than us.

The food here is traditional and plentiful and we were really looked after by the staff. The prices are very reasonable and the view over Funchal is stunning. We were recommended this restaurant to have a traditional Espitada which unlike some in the tourist zone was on a 2 foot skewer and very tender. Worth the walk up the hill!

Excellent food by high quality raw materials, excellent view to Funchal and very good service. Prices is like any other restaurant in the city. Atmosphere is very romantic. Unfortunately is a little difficult to find it.
