We had a lovely evening here during our holiday. We chose the 39euro menu which included wine and water. The service was similar to that found in Michelin star restaurants. On the whole the food was excellent. A couple of minor gripes to be had though. The palate cleanser was a sorbet which unfortunately appeared to come straight out of... More

I will keep this review short and sweet. If you get chance to go, go, you will not be disapointed it was by far the best meal I have ever eaten in a wonderful location.

If you want to be wowed by sheer quality book this restaurant. My wife and I went on TripAdvisor advise and were blown away by the beautiful plates of food that we received. Their take on the local fish with banana is excellent and presented like a masterpiece. With a mouthwatering tangerine sorbet between courses we both finished of with... More

Restaurante Do Forte is well-worth a visit if you're looking for a fancy meal in Funchal. The €39 deal is excellent value and every dish is beautifully presented and aesthetically pleasing. The food itself was very good on the whole, and the wine (continually topped up) served with it was perfectly enjoyable. A couple of items were slightly over-seasoned and... More

The set menu at €39 is great value with numerous small courses accompanied by ample supplies of well selected wines. The place is quite compact and in warm weather the tables by the fort wall openings have limited, but nice views out to sea. Service is usually slick and we have enjoyed all of our visits which now number about... More

We'd heard this place was good. And it was. We had to book several days in advance, and just squeezed in on the last night of our holiday. So it had a lot to live up to, as we'd been eating well for some time. First impressions were good - welcoming and attentive staff, and a classy-looking setting (we'd been... More

This was a very busy restaurant and we were only able to have a table in the side room which did feel a bit out of things and very much the 'overspill' room. It had no windows. That aside we had a very nice meal with interesting flavour combinations, Mediterranean with North African influences and we did enjoy. If we... More

Been here 3 years ago...it was great. Last Sunday was a real disappointment. All the staff were grumpy...they were most unwelcoming, to the point of discourtesy. Food was fine but when the service and atmosphere is that poor they should be ashamed! Went to their sister restaurant "The Goya" a few days before and this was really good food and... More

Finally managed to get a booking during our latest visit to beautiful Madeira on a pleasant but cool evening. A smart waitress was waiting for our arrival and opened the taxi door for us. We were escorted into the restaurant [which is really little more than a tented lean-to against the side of the old fort] to the first table... More

Normally I avoid restaurants in old town and lido areas of Funchal as many are over priced tourist traps with poor food. This was an exception. Efficient unobtrusive service( this was a business lunch meeting) Food was beautifully presented and quite unique and different from the usual old town fare. Not particularly cheap but worth the €€€.
