Friendly tea rooms

We were stopping at the Santa Maria in old town Funchal and discovered the tea rooms by accident. We had coffee rather than tea with two pieces of cake which was really delicious. There was a man playing an accordion who went from table to table and indicated we put money in his pot, he was very... read more

Really impressed, been here a couple of times. They serve a great range of teas and some lovely food. The setting is great too, in a lovely quiet square.

Absolutely loved this place. Grabbed some tea and cake here almost everyday on our 2 week holiday in Madeira. Highly recommend to atleast try.

We saw the tea house yesterday when walking past and made a note to return today. Doing a roaring trade despite trip advisor saying it is closed. Huge range of teas to try but ours came to €8.40 for two teas and scones as I think we upgraded to large teas. Saw somebody else having the country bread rolls which... More

We have just returned from Madeira and found this place on our first day. We visited it three times - twice for tea and cake and once for lunch. The service was friendly and attentive. the selection of teas was out of this world and the lunch time salad was excellent. One of the best tea houses we have visited

I would recommend this tea shop to all lovers of good tea. The selection of teas is extensive and the service friendly. Our drinks came with instructions on how long ee should leave the tea to brew. The setting is relaxing and pleasant.

Despite a light drizzle on our last day, the outside seating of this place was full. The variety of tea on offer was excellent, the cake tasty and the service friendly, knowledgeable and quick. You can have a small pot (1.5 cups) or a large pot (2.5 cups). Two happy customers!

This little tea house is a real gem. Tea and hot scone with jam is a must at 11.30 a.m. everyday. Would not miss coming here. Great place to sit people watching.

We stopped for lunch after having read the reviews on Trip Advisor. My wife had the chicken salad, which was inedible. The "chicken" was compressed parts and was incredibly salty. The service was slow. Other than that, the tea and beer were fine!

I think ought it was about time I reviewed this tea house as we always visit here when we are in Madeira. The place is always busy and we have on occasions had to sit upstairs near the toilets (very clean by the way). The cafe has tea paraphernalia for sale and a limited menu but for a light meal...
