Disappointing

Three stars might be a bit generous...this is a 'grab the punter' type of restaurant on the edge of the old town. The building looks OK, dining outside in the courtyard looks attractive and there is (slightly formulaic) entertainment some evenings. Menus are multi-lingual, as are the waiters, and... read more

Horrible old fashioned restaurant with creepy obsequious waiters. Limpets more chewy than pencil erasers and they managed to make the suckling pig tough. Served wih cold potato chips. A flash back to the 70s. The patio is so close to the traffic you can feel the heat of the exhaust fumes. The live singer couldn't sing....an insult to all Portuguese.

We wanted to order pork in "vinha d'alhos (pork marinated in wine and garlic). After a long spiel about being a heavy dish and enough for 6-8 to share, we ordered ½ portion to share (wife and myself) and then got about 8 pieces of boiled pork in vinegar, each piece slightly bigger than an almond! The smell of vinegar... More

We were 'lured' in by one of the waiters and were so glad we succumbed! Excellent service which matched their food. We went as a party of four and found the service to be attentive and friendly. We would certainly recommend this as a place to eat. We were there for dinner and it was nice to sit outside in... More

Picked this restaurant for lunch since we were close by. Some of the pork dishes sounded intriguing, but we stuck to a couple of suckling pig sandwiches since it was only lunch. Sandwiches were good quality. The staff was very nice and helpful. I appreciated that they made a point of giving me the wifi password instead of making it... More

This restaurant was advised by our travel agency. We felt like eating something different than fish or meat - big mistake. We had pizza and pasta. The pastery of the pizza was from the freezer!!! And the taste was horrible! Even freezer pizzas from the supermarket were better. The price was €10,90!! My boyfriend who loves food didn't even finished... More

Had the roast pig Madeira style (wood oven cooked) straight from the oven - very nice and crispy skin. Also the traditional garlic bread was very tasty. Only went there for the roast pork so can't comment on the other food. Pork came with potatoes cooked in 3 different ways which made a nice change.

Not sure about the evening service as many have said is poor, but they can barely cope with three or four tables at lunchtime. Food is very basic local and there is a mix of clientele including locals having soup and pork sandwiches in the local bread. Pork was great and straight from the oven as we watched him prepare... I am not one to write negative comments, but in this instance i feel it is my duty to do so. During the day I had seen that they served Leitao ( suckling pig) which I love and we decided to eat there that night. We ordered "bolo de caco" which is the local garlic bread, a bottle of wine,... More

We enjoyed the Manuel in Falwty-Towers service until the moment when we were served our food. It was far the worst we ate in years! Even worse was the bill. You could eat at the best places i Funchal for half the price. This place is a scam and a shame for Funchal. Beware!
