We ate here three times during our holiday in Funchal, the Lareira is just kind of opposite The Cliff Bay Hotel. We had a fish platter with three different types of fish plus huge prawns, clams, squid, mussels, etc accompanied by vegetables, another time we had a delicious paella valenciana (meat and fish), it was better than in Spain!! We ate here once during our holiday in Funchal. I took the steak on the stone, it was ok, but not a stunning experience. My expectations were quite high because I had eaten great steak on the stone in other restaurant and now I expected to have similar experience. The price of the meal is a little bit expensive what... Lareira Portuguesa a short taxi ride from Funchal centre. The week we were in Madeira we went to this restaurant twice the first time we went down stairs and the second time we went up stairs. Down stairs is restaurant Lareira and up is Frango da Guiia were chicken is grilled fresh. Both restaurants are excellent and well worth a... More

We had read a number of great reviews about this restaurant, and we weren't disappointed. The menu choice is extensive, but our waiter was very helpful in guiding us through the numerous choices. For our main courses, my wife chose 'mixed fish with seafood' whilst I had 'steak on the stone'. Both were superb! The meat and fish were really... More

We have dined in this restaurant many many times over the past 10 years whilst on holiday on Madeira. It is a must visit restaurant on the island. The staff are excellent, the food is superb, and the venue is really nice and relaxing. We have never had a bad experience here which results in us returning again and again.... More

Although this is primarily a fish restaurant, meat eaters also won't be disappointed - on our last visit my wife and I shared a truly superb Chateaubriand. As I have posted in a previous review the service is excellent with the only mild criticism being the amount of food served - too much at times even for those like me... More

Chose this restaurant mainly because of the choice of fish for my partner. It turned out to be the best meal of our week in Madeira coupled with 5 star service. My partner cannot eat shellfish and once we explained we were given a host if choices of fish for her - really helpful. We were given a fish cake... More

My wife and I have come here often and this has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in. Not inexpensive but great value compared to some of the vastly overpriced restaurants nearby. Fish is so fresh and varied and other dishes are also excellent. Staff so friendly and helpful. This place is great!
