Nice, a little hidden restaurant in the center of a city... decoration is nothing special, it's tipical portugues restaurant, but food (I tried traditional skewer) was very delicious and had a resonable price. Service very pleasent.

The restaurant A Bica is located just next to the Funchal market, but in the basement! The space in the restaurant is well used and the walls are full of historical pictures from Madeira. The service was nice and the food came fast. The local garlic bread was the best we've tasted so far! We might have chosen the wrong... More

As interesting as finding a new good restaurant, is returning to an "old" good one and seeing that it maintains its quality. Again in Madeira, we had to return to A Bica, for dinner, twice. Food is definitely tasty, well cooked and has this home cooked feeling to it. Clientele seems to be (for dinner) mostly foreign, enjoying the (pretty... More

Went on TripAdvisor recommendations and had a warm welcome. Sadly food not up to scratch, rose wine not good but local beer fine. Soup tasted like Heinz, pork was thin and leathery, meat skewer "still kicking" it was so uncooked, vegetables watery (brussel sprouts? !!), steak passable. Not recommended sorry to say.

The owners are very attentive and all of the food was very good. One of the better restaurants in Funchal. The fish of the day was about 13 euros or so. Value is fair for the area. Good food at a fair price.

Just opposite the market place, you climb down a few stairs and there it is, warm welcome and well taken care of. Locals like this place and well-informed tourists too, for a good reason. You feel you're important for this business, like you're at the center of it. Indeed, it is exactly what we are: the only reason for this... More

A Bica ranked highly during our stay so we gave it a try. It is in the basement and the atmosphere is more cafe than restaurant. The friendly, informal staff brought us a tray of fresh fish to help us choose. We shared a salad starter only to find the same salad veg on our main course plate. The red... More
