If your travels should take you to Madeira, and you should find yourself in Funchal in need of a meal, you could do no better than to go to A Bica. This homely restaurant, opposite the Mercado dos Lavradores, is the favoured place for market traders to eat - need one say more? I tried the Lingua do vaca, and... More

Madeira is a Touristic place ; this Restaurant is not. Each time I visit Funchal I have to resist not to have lunch and dinner at this Restaurant, because I really like to "explore new experiences". I never found a similar Restaurant in Funchal, since the food is simply amazing (the best "Pão do Caco", a special bread with garlic... More

This is one of my favourite restaurants when I travel back to Madeira and always make sure I stop by. The food is great, staff are amazing and there is always a good vibe that ooozes from this place, I like it because it serves traditional food at a very reasonable price and it is always busy which is a... Situated on the uphill side, opposite the fish market. A basement restaurant serving reasonably priced and v, fresh fish. Not very atmospheric but very good food and value for money, The locals eat here.

Friendly, interested and helpful selecting exactly what you would like. The service was efficient and friendly with a feeling of home. The food was excellent, and a lot of it :) We were a group of 3 and we all had something different to eat, 2 had meats I had fish. The best tuna fish steak I have ever had.... More

Having been recommended by a local taxi driver - more fool me - we looked forward to this with anticipation. What a let down! Downstairs, no views, no garden, dodgy aircon. Mediocre food that was no cheaper than many in the Old Town. Never to be repeated!!!

It's a place to taste some Madeira traditional dishes. They were very kind with us. It's a quite cheap place to eat and you got different options to choose. Sometimes it is full of people and you have to wait so it is recomendable to go early. It is next to the market.

This little underground gem is a perfect family and economy restaurant with standard madeiran cuisine in a simple but excellent way. Fish and meat both of high quality accompanied by fresh potatoes and rice. For a real madeiran treat, this is place to go. And don't miss the bica before you go

Nice, a little hidden restaurant in the center of a city... decoration is nothing special, it's tipical portugues restaurant, but food (I tried traditional skewer) was very delicious and had a resonable price. Service very pleasent.

The restaurant A Bica is located just next to the Funchal market, but in the basement! The space in the restaurant is well used and the walls are full of historical pictures from Madeira. The service was nice and the food came fast. The local garlic bread was the best we've tasted so far! We might have chosen the wrong... More
