Read reviews and expected something special. Disappointed. Food ok. Service lack- lustre. No atmosphere in spite of it being relatively busy. Was offered a choice of 2 tables downstairs- one of which we wouldn't have been able to reach never mind pull out seats to sit!

It is always a pleasure to come to this place, as the welcome of the staff shines with smiles & grace on how you are. I ordered from the counter of fresh fish'dorado', to be grilled & split into two, custom for my father to eat from the bone/spine.The wine a simple-dry, yet light with fruity notes (one of my... We had a very nice dinner here. We called on chance and fortunately they had a table left. The food was very nice. The menu was imaginative and fearured some local specialities. I particularily enjoyed the Black Pork as a main course. The service was professional and attentive, We enjoyed a very nice bottle of portugese red wine. About £75... More

During the week we spent in Funchal we visited this restaurant twice and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The staff were very efficient and informative about the dishes they served. I had tasted Madeiran Tomato and Onion Soup elsewhere but Dos Combatentes do it best!! We ate fish on both occasions and it was wonderful. We did not sample the... More

They were right, the food was so good, staff excellent and the decor well need I say more. They asked me how I wanted my meat cooked, it came as I asked and it melted in my mouth. The wine was so good and the waiter kept our glass full.

I suppose this is the best fish restaurant from all that we visited in Madeira. We ordered grilled mussels as starter and they were magnificent. I ate the seabass and it melt in the mouth. I'd liike to try the fish of day .In our case it was seabass and parrot. The waiter told us, that the fish espada is... More

I liked that the food was very good and the restaurant is nicely decorated. I did not like the somewhat too professional and distant staff.

We have been visiting Madeira for the last 9 years, sometimes visiting twice in one year. We always visit this restaurant once or twice during our week stay. The service is always welcoming, one waiter always remembering my husband and I. The food, particularly the fresh fish and meat is extremely tasty and good value. I would highly recommend this... We visited Dos Combatentes again on our second visit to Madeira. We reserved a table as this restaurant gets busy - on the weekday evening we visited there was a small queue for tables if you had not booked. The food is typical Madeiran fare - with probably more choice than other restaurants and there is a genuine and authentic... More

Excelent location right in the heart of the city! The environment was very cozy, the service was very nice and efficient, friendly staff. But most important the food was so so good ,delicious and tender meat, the tipical 'espetada' served with a mixed salad rice and 'milho frito'. Really tasty, I absolutely recommend this restaurant, very pleasant experience. i've been... More
