Superb food and service best to make a reservation

We dined at this lovely little restaurant twice on our recent stay at Porto Santa Maria – the food is excellent and comes at a very good price. The garlic bread which they serve is very nice and not like we are used to in other restaurants but makes a delicious and moreish change. Someone commented... read more

This is our favourite place to eat in Funchal. It is lovely to sit under the shade in the old part of the town and eat a good meal and drink reasonable wine, all as part of a deal. We had sea bream and chips this time which had a good salad. The chocolate mousse was wonderful! See you next... More

Just returned from Madeira and we have visited many times and tried many restaurants and this for us is our favourite. The staff are all warm and friendly without being pretentious and the food is freshly cooked to a very high standard. We nearly always go for the fish and usually Fish of the Day as so tasty and fresh.... More

Could not fault the meal or service even on a busy night, Salmon pasta dish and the three meats dish were both excellent, Watch out for the bread that appears to be free but isn't.

We visited on recommendation but this was one of the worst meals of our visit. The garlic bread was not the traditional sweet potato bread but ordinary sliced bread. The mixed fish skewer was dry and tasted as if had been left out since lunch time. A waste of a good evening.

Visited twice during our holiday having found it after reviews on tripadvisor. Really nice menu. Local food. Great staff all of whom were professional and friendly. Service was great. Food was really lovely. All well priced. Pass all the restaurants dragging you in. This place doesn't need to drag you in its food is delicious.

My husband had grilled scabbard which he said was scrumptious. I chose tuna portugese style. The waiter for the main course was very friendly, polite and good at explaining the different dishes. He asked how I liked my tuna to be cooked and I asked for well done. It was very well done, so much that it was a bit... More

My wife and family took me here after New Years eve as they had been before. The service was excellent as was the food. I had fish stew which was simply fantastic . We had a wonderful last night on this beautiful Island which was made even better by going to this restaurant. If you are lucky enough to visit... More

We have visited this restaurant since it opened. Very friendly staff, excellent service and above all excellent food and wine. We have tried most of the dishes on the menu and have never been disappointed. Fish stew and espetada are particularly good. Maybe a little difficult to find, Leave the cable car site and walk towards the Forte, go past... More

Visited it for a family dinner. My daughter loved her Spaghetti Bolonese, which she orders everywhere we go. My food was excellent. Cant complain. My partner was also happy with his meal. My desert was a disaster. Should have been some sort of custard, but tasted like sugary omelette. Waiters: most are good, speak many languages. The one which was... More
